New Gun for SOCOM

By Lt Col P

By way of our favorite beefy Afrikaner, we learn that SOCOM has chosen a new rifle, the FN SCAR. He kindly supplied an image, which I have lifted shamelessly:

CNN-- gasp!-- has more info.

And I found this on YouTube:

OK, things are looking good so far, I like the port-side charging handle... Manly caliber? Check. Iron sights? Check. Bayonet lug? HEY!! What the--

Titillating. I think I need to head on home for a cold shower.

One of the most interesting things about the mk17.

"SCAR-H, which will accept "battlefield pickup" AK-47/AKM magazines with 7.62 M43 ammunition, available during the operations behind the enemy lines"

Seems like a good idea to me, and probably very welcome by folks like Delta.

I like how the grenade launcher twists to the left or right to make it easier to load. An excellent detail.

Oh, SEXY!!!

But I was a tanker....mine is still BIGGER!

Looks pretty interesting. I sure would like to see something by Colts, Ruger, Remington, Barrett's etc. though. FN and Beretta make fine weapons, but what's wrong with Buy American?

The SCAR will be manufactured in Columbia SC at FN-USA.

I really don't give a damn where it's made (by the way, the Beretta M-9 is a piece of shit in my opinion). I just want a weapon system that's reliable, accurate, lethal, and simple.

The M-16/M-4 family of rifles is old and worn out. It required far too much maintenance to make it a solid combat weapon. It was lethal and accurate though. But, its time is past.

It's time... high time... for a new assault rifle.

Matt, there's always the Bushmaster ACR.

Oh, that's sweet. I like being able to do all sorts of things with it.
