Speaking of Slab

By John

He had the quote of the year in an email this morning:

So far, it's been an effing boring deployment. [My wife] asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I said "Insurgents." I don't know that we've necessarily turned the corner out here, but they're definitely on their heels and reeling.

Hurry up and wait..... time sure stands still when you're bored, but I'll take bored and safe over MSM body counts anyday!

Old Tanker   ·  October 29, 2007 07:17 AM

You and I both, Old Tanker!

I told him he was asking the wrong person for insurgents.

Slab's Wife   ·  October 29, 2007 07:45 AM

Of course boredom can lead to complacency, better keep your men on their toes Slab!!!

Old Tanker   ·  October 29, 2007 12:04 PM

My son is in Anbar and said basically the same thing. Quiet and boring sounds awfully good to me though!

Semper Fi Mom   ·  October 29, 2007 01:02 PM

Yeah not to bust anyone's hump, but I for one am glad y'all are bored, and I hope everyone comes home whole and in one piece...

Happy Halloween!

Dr. Kenneth Noisewater   ·  October 29, 2007 04:08 PM

Your deployment should be like an airplane flight; uneventful & boring. Come home in one piece.

Don

Don Winans   ·  October 29, 2007 04:50 PM

Well done. You guys are doing an outstanding job. There was a time not too long ago when getting on an airplane was a supreme act of courage.

I do believe you have made a difference.

God bless you. We say "thank you" to you and your family. Dude, you all rock!

Jihadsux   ·  October 29, 2007 05:13 PM

"You've been a naughty boy. No insurgents for you."

"C'mon, Ma! No fair!"

"Go to your room for the rest of your deployment."

"Aw, jeepers. Fooey. Whatta gyp."

Tom W.   ·  October 29, 2007 05:52 PM

Thanks for a job well-done Slab. You're fighting 'em THERE so they'll stay away from HERE (what's left of 'em, anyway).

Holmes   ·  October 29, 2007 05:58 PM

Stay vigilant! Be alert!

Yes, I know the world needs more lerts. However, "bored" is how they want you right before they strike.

Thanks for your service.

I'm sure we could fill a shipping container full of folk who scream, hollar, and whing about wanting American servicefolk to die .. and ship it over... don't know if we could make the Christmas deadline though at this date.

Just plant the container somewhere in Kalifornia... and post a sign:

"This way to the Egress////// Protest"

Larry.conley   ·  October 29, 2007 06:09 PM

Oh .. and for poppy fields.... Get some engineer to armor up a harvester/planter. You invite us to rip up your poppy we'll plant soy/corn/beets/.. whatever... If we find poppy without your invite.. we sow salt....

See simple..don't want to starve.. don't grow poppy...

ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Russell   ·  October 29, 2007 06:44 PM

Anbar-based Marines have already complained that there's no one to shoot and respectfully requested re-deployment, not to Okinawa, but to Afghanistan. You gotta love their fighting spirit.

American Soldiers and Marines are NO children, who need to be protected by Nancy Pelosi to bring them home in defeat. They want to fight. Hoo Rah!

Jabba the Tutt   ·  October 29, 2007 07:21 PM

Second the remarks about staying sharp & coming home safe.
Yours most respectfully,

May we help bring such boredom across all of Iraq!

Words cannot express my admiration for our soldiers - the finest citizens of the greatest Nation on Earth.

ajacksonian   ·  October 30, 2007 04:06 AM

You could always come back and camp out in D.C.
Definitely a target rich environment.

Merry Christmas

RJ   ·  October 30, 2007 04:49 AM

Keep a sharp eye out. They would love to ruin our Thanksgiving or Christmas. Boredom brings complacency. Stay sharp so that they stay dead.

Jack is Back!   ·  October 30, 2007 04:55 AM

Thank you and your men for your outstanding efforts in bringing peace. We are all in your debt.

Phil   ·  October 30, 2007 09:11 AM

"No way you're getting an insurgent for Christmas, young man -- you'll end up putting somebody's eye out".

Actually, given the insurgents' predilection for torture and be-headings, above is kinda creepy.

Come home safe, come home soon.

You know... that just leaves more munitions for the ones you do find. ;-)'

Stay bored and stay safe. Thanks for your service.
