VMI Hurricane

By John

Tailgates and helicopters don't mix, folks. A thousand thank-yous to reader and retired Army helicopter pilot Graham T., who sends photos and wisdom: "one hundred MPH rotor wash will do this."

Backstory here.

Hilarity here:

The humanity.....

LtCol P says... Oh the humanity?? Oh the Class of 89!! From multiple sources, and confirmed by One Who Is Close To Barracks, I am pleased to say this aircraft was piloted by a member of the Class of 89! Please join me and BullNav in an Old Yell.

Serves 'em right for not letting Alumni drink on the parade deck UNLESS they join the Keydet Club...

Joel   ·  September 13, 2007 07:46 AM

yeah and now they're charging to park on the parade grounds, apparently.

Heh, this picture still cracks me up.

With a little more wind we could have literally seen the red white and yellow float on high!

Chris Authier   ·  September 13, 2007 12:54 PM

Authier???

06?

One of our rats??

Email, buddy.

John   ·  September 13, 2007 01:06 PM

89! 89! 89!

LtCol P   ·  September 13, 2007 03:09 PM

I can name one of our BR's who flies SH-60B's.

Sure would like to know who it was...

bullnav   ·  September 13, 2007 03:41 PM

That is absolutely the funniest thing.

Ray G   ·  September 13, 2007 05:55 PM

Thank God we have people like LtCol P protecting this country. I thought the stuff I did in a Tank made a mess. Thanks from Ohio.

Back in the Old Corps, we'd have stayed right there and kept on drinking.....Oh yeah, you're not allowed to drink anymore....And the female cadets' skirts would flap in the breeze which would be unsightly.....So much has changed in the last 10 years.

Bryan V   ·  September 13, 2007 11:34 PM

Back in the Old Corps, there were no female cadets...

Any comment yet from the Athletic Dept's Development Office?

andrewdb   ·  September 14, 2007 08:10 AM

Dang! That's my car in the foreground!
And there go my sausages!

SteveM   ·  September 14, 2007 09:03 AM

Steve, were you the photographer? If so, great job!

Your son and my brother are in the same class I think, 09.

John   ·  September 14, 2007 09:44 AM

John - How's it going?!

Chris Authier   ·  September 14, 2007 09:50 AM

That is hillarious, silly military tricks.

Stix   ·  September 14, 2007 11:46 AM

John, I did not take the picture as my wife and I were in the bookstore when all this happened, so we missed the excitement other than the cleanup. Our tailgate neighbors saved much of our gear but the Trailblazer did get dinged.
My son, Mike, is actually Ratclass of '03. He's a readmit and (hopefully) will graduate next year. He's in the Pipe Corps.
I had almost forgotten how much fun you coud have at a VMI tailgate.

SteveM   ·  September 14, 2007 02:53 PM

I believe one of my BRs took that photo.

Andrew '10

Andrew   ·  September 14, 2007 08:01 PM

Steve, '03 is my year. What's your son's name? Email me!

Steve   ·  September 15, 2007 04:50 PM

Steve,
We try to make every home game and tailgate. If you go, look for the Trailblazer with VA tags 'LOOKOUT'.
Or, ask for Mike at Malone's on a Friday Night. ;-)
