Project Valour-IT Drive Kicks Off
By John
Folks, starting today bloggers from around the country will be uniting to help support the worthiest of the worthy military causes, Project Valour-IT.
Project Valour-IT, in memory of SFC William V. Ziegenfuss, provides voice-controlled laptop computers to wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand and arm injuries or amputations at home or in military hospitals. Operating laptops by speaking into a microphone, our wounded heroes are able to send and receive messages from friends and loved ones, surf the 'Net, and communicate with buddies still in the field without having to press a key or move a mouse. The experience of CPT Charles "Chuck" Ziegenfuss, a partner in the project who suffered severe hand wounds while serving in Iraq, illustrates how important this voice-controlled software can be to a wounded servicemember's recovery.
This year's goal is ambitious, $45,000 per team. Ambitious, but not impossible.
Here's how we're going to do it. Participating bloggers are broken down into four teams: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. As any servicemember will tell you, nothing motivates folks like interservice rivalry. Each team features a cast of bloggers who have volunteered to support this two week drive.
I glady accepted the invite from Soldiers' Angels to head up Team Air Force. And I'm even more excited to introduce Team Air Force's powerhouse ensemble of bloggers:

You can donate directly by clicking the "Donate" button below. I'll be posting updates throughout the two week period, along with a few special events (we'll have an auction that you will definitely want to check out). Simply put, Valour-IT is one of the finest causes in the nation, one most deserving of your generousity. On behalf of all of us at OPFOR, and all of us on Team Air Force, many thanks in advance for your kindness. Let's buy some laptops!

hey, it all goes to the same great cause. Thanks man!
Go Zoomies!!!! Thanks for helping...
Will pass on the word....
Hi John...
Just left a message on the AF Crossroad's Spouse Forum!!! Hope this helps out :)
Systems are a go, and I am on my way ... have not posted yet, been spending more time drumming up donations. Let's go, folks, reach out to ALL KINDS of folks to help Soldiers' Angels reach the goal.
I tried to do a trackback ping, but it's not working right now. I did post the info, and maybe y'all will get a few donations from Wisconsin. :)
I never was in the service, but I appreciate your blog. I donated - and I encourage everyone out there to put your money where your mouth is.
These men and women deserve this type of support. They have laid it on the line for us - they are giving something to ME, and American citizen. The least I can do is give something back.
Thanks for all your work and sacrifice for America. And thanks for the opportunity to give back in some way.
You make us proud.
Good project. By the way Captain Z(Chuck) still has his blog, From My Position... On the Way. It is hilarious and is worth reading from the begining of the archives. Few milblogs encapsulate so fully the story of our warriors.
Hey John, left a message for you over at my blog...
Made a donation, then saw that the Marines were up $1410.00 and the Air Force had $1414.00 - so I had to make another donation of $5.00 to make sure the Marines weren't in last place. I'm looking forward to seeing this effort take off as more bloggers sign on to support it.
hahaha! I KNEW someone on Team Marine did that on purpose.
I didn't think it was going to be a Benedict Arnold from OPFOR though!
Benedict Arnold, eh? All's fair in love, war, and fundraising, my friend.
Greetings comrades. New guy here. We're linked now. I dropped a donation of $1.00 for every year I've been afforded in this country thanks to other's sacrifices. Stop by and say "Hey". Most of the entries on my site are Marine Corps related as my little brother just finished a 20 year enlistment. All that means is I hope they come in 2nd. All's fair.
Ok Zoomies you guys are getting your butt kicked by the Army. Anyhow, my father was a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force, a Korea, and Nam vet(3 tours), so I have came back to donate to your site in his name!!! He would have loved this competition and laughed about it! So, I'll put in $25 for Chief Master Sergeant Ben Bauman Sr., I wish he was around today to join us!!! Go Army, VMI, and Air Force!
Ok, I added 79 cents for VMI 79 too. Good luck.
John was going to graciously allow me to leave the Team Marines button up on my post. However, I decided it was best to take it down. Wouldn't want to give the Zoomies a chance to cry foul play when they get their asses handed to 'em.
Here's $100 for your cause from a non military person in Germany. Saw the thing mentioned on www.boingboing.com. Makes a lotta sense for me (and I really don't care if it goes to Air Force or the others, to me all men and women are equal in this regard.)

I'm normally not interested in military issues and for what it is worth, I'd be more a peace activist than a soldier, although in fact I'm neither. But when I read about Project Valour-It, which tries to give speech enabled computers to veterans with hand and arm injuries, I immediately wanted to lend some energy in form of money and blog attention, because I see it a project that is first and foremost for people and not the military and a fine example of humanity and brotherhood.
I donated a very tiny amount. But more importantly I put a HUGH link on my homepage of my main website, diabeticfriendly.com (and NO I DONT WANT ANYONE FROM HERE TO BUY ANYTHING) I get about 100,000 hits a month and I have really high google rankings for my keywords. I have also told several friends to do the same with they companies they own. Maybe we can get other small businesses to put REAL links to the Soldier's Angels blog for ALL the great things they do! (not just a buried link on a link page)
I truly respect and appreciate all the good things and sacrifice our men and women who serve do for both myself & family.
Thanks
david

Just to clarify, all the money raised ultimately goes into the same account and is used for any worthy servicemember, without regard to branch of service. The teams are simply to make things fun.
Your trackbacks don't seem to be working, John. Attempted a trackback and got this: An error occured. The TrackBack server said:

Ok Zoomies, I donated $7.90 on your website even though I'm Army. I did it as a VMI guy and it is $7.90 for the Class of 79... Now, I will go donate the BIG Money on BLACKFIVE in support of the Army team. Good Luck!
