NATO Takes the Fight to the Taliban
By Lt Col P
NATO and Afghan forces engage the Taliban in southern Afghanistan. Unfortunately, four Canadian soldiers were killed, one of them by friendly fire.

The Canadians are good troops from what I hear. Shame the governments let thier military slip (Budget and support wise) in the last couple decades.
I was reading a book one of my friends gave me as a birthday present, "18 Hours", about an Australian SAS radioman who was inserted with the US troops into the mountains in Afghanistan for Operation Anaconda. One thing that struck me was how concerned the ASAS (I'm not sure whether that's the right acronym) officers were about US friendly fire and how far they went to make sure that friendly fire incidents didn't occur. I'm not attacking the USAF, their AC-130s and B-52s saved the pinned down troops, but it does underline the dangers of coalition warfare.
I'm a canadian living in america, with great excitement I went to an airshow this weekend. For the first time in my life I got to see the A-10 demonstration. It was sobering knowing that a twin of the aircraft accidentially killed and wounded my countrymen.
I wanted to find a pilot and tell him that I'd guessed many more lives were saved by his collegues, but they were mobbed by the crowds.
One reason coalition members are so wary of american friendly fire is the disproportionate effect it can have on public support back home. Unfortunately, lots of people in the NATO countries are looking for a reason to hate the US.
The battle (operation medusa) is still continuing, I take pride that Canada is leading the charge, along with the Dutch, Danes and Afgans. Apparently they have a large taliban force surrounded, allowing a way for more fighters to fill the pocket. Big mistake Mr. Taliban.
It's too bad this isn't getting more play on the US networks. Your allies are at work, I'm sure the americans would like to know about it.
