A Soldier's Burden

By John

Just in case you missed this powerful cartoon from Cox & Forkum.....

However depressing, I --like most in the pro-victory camp-- take comfort in the quiet wisdom of political sages like Victor Davis Hanson:

For all the pro da of al Jazeera, the wounded pride of the Arab Street, or the vitriol of the Western Left, years from now the truth will remain that our soldiers did not come to plunder or colonize, but were willing to die for others’ freedom when few others would. Neither Michael Moore nor Noam Chomsky can change that, because it is not opinion, but truth — something that the Greeks rightly defined as “not forgetting” or “something that cannot be forgotten ” (alêtheia).

So here's to "not forgetting," and continuing the mission.

This illustrates how our fighting men and women have every reason to be the mindless, savage, brutal thugs that like many war critics and Bush-haters claim.

But they aren't. The bad apples are a very tiny percentage.

Our men and women in uniform are dedicated, courageous, and (dare I even say it) heroic individuals who serve in an honorable institution keeping the world as safe as possible and making it a little better day by day.

How that must drive the Moonbats up the wall.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember something from SLA Marshall... troops going ashore at Normandy sank like stones in the water because they had so much stuff in their packs, like cigarettes and candy and rations. They were weighed down not only be the tools of war, but by the goodwill and support of the American people. Oh, how times have changed. Today, they are weighed down by the ill-will and policy restraints of the freaks, weirdos, yahoos, defeatists, collaborators, and @$$holes who doesn't see the mortal danger facing us.

Very thought-provoking blog. Quick question: Does being 'Pro-victory' mean that you think it was a good idea for the US to go to war with Iraq. I ask because it is difficult for me (as one who has a brother in Iraq) to understand how anyone could at this point. I always supported going into Afghanistan. But somehow we have forgotten all about Osama bin Laden, and now we are stuck in an imbroglio with a country that Bush acknowledges had nothing to do with 9/11. Honestly, I still can't figure out why we went in there in the first place (and what ever happened to the hunt for the real terrorist, bin Laden).

This is one of the best cartoons I have laid eyes upon in a long time. I wish these politicians, tree-huggers, and human rights types would understand that while they mean well, they don't help a thing. The truth is that war is hell. The enemy doesn't have politicians or human rights people telling them how to fight, so why should we?

I think that if the politicians and human rights activists really want to make the army adhere to human rights 'platitudes' and conventions, then they should spend 3 months on the front-lines themselves.
