Fair Specimens of Citizen Soldiers
Yes, yes– a classic.
Fun film–I recall seeing it in a theater when I was a lieutenant–I showed it one year at West Point when I ran the film forum in the 80s–cadets loved it–all wanted to grow sideburns.
I'll have to watch that one again. Michael Caine himself turned 80 yesterday. Pity the two haven't done more films together, but it probably wouldn't have worked- we'd be forever comparing it with this one.
The director wanted to make this movie for several decades, originally cast Clark Gable in one of the roles. It never came together until this version, and I think he got every bit of it right. My brother brought one of those rifles back from Afghanistan, but he's a Kipling character himself.
Always glad to see one of my favorite movies get some love. They sure don't make 'em like that any more… Hats on!
