I had no idea the Russian army still used these. My great-grandfather was a French army officer, retiring after WWI–and he was pretty old then–my grandmother told me stories of his checking his soldiers' feet for these wraps–apparently 19th century French troops didn't like them, either, and wld wear nothing at all, so he became obsessive about their feet–he started as an enlisted man, so I guess he knew all the tricks–now my grandmother's stories fall into place (at least on this topic!). Thanks!
