You go on a little TAD, and just look what happens–
The chief of naval operations has penned an opinion column that has military analysts buzzing over whether it signals the Navy may be the first military branch to jettison the costly F-35 stealth fighter jet.
Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert’s column in the current issue of Proceedings magazine questions the value of radar-evading technology, or stealth, in flying to a target and bombing it in a world of rapidly improving radars.
If the Navy kicks it to the curb, you know who else will too? Our beloved Corps. Somebody needs to turn the lights back on in the F-18 assembly plant.
Stealth is today’s ECM. A lot of good people checked into the Hanoi Hilton before some American commanders recognized its value. Likewise, the head of the IAF took the attitude that a 500 pound iron bomb, properly delivered, was the most effective all-band jammer. Lets not repeat history.
CNO doesn’t appropriate funds. Family programs within DON will be effectively destroyed before the F-35 is discovered to be this century’s equivalent to the Brewster Buffalo.
Nice try admiral. Should have stepped up back when it mattered.
LOL! I doubt anyone other than DaveO on the Interweb thought to compare the F-35 to the Brewster Buffalo. But go look at the picture of the Brewster Buffalo on Wikipedia. There is an eerie family resemblance: both short, fat and ugly. Short, fat and ugly is OK in people. Hell, I’m 2/3s of the way there myself. But not in fighter planes. And now the delivery date is 2019? Maybe we should see if the ChiComs can sell us something.
His article has already been called out for displaying a remarkably poor understanding of stealth technology.
I wonder though if budget woes will not affirm his opinion? Economic realities do speak with a certain authority.
