To my brethren (and sist’ren) in the Army, can anyone confirm or deny this story?
Things are about to get very ugly in the wake of the Army’s suspension of a Black female E-9 last fall as commandant of the Drill Sergeant School at Fort Jackson, S.C.
CSM Teresa King has filed suit against the man who fired her, MAJ GEN Richard Longo, as well as CSM John Calpena. The grounds? “Racism, sexism and abuse of authority.”
The 50 year-old was the first African-American female to run the prestigious school. Her promotion to that position got her a favorable write-up on the front page of the New YorkTIMES and her face on television all across the country.
This came to me under the subject line, “Got to love the lack of a combat patch.” Haven’t heard a thing about about it til now. I can’t imagine that the Army of the United States, after a decade of full-on combat in two (2) theaters, would put someone who hasn’t been overseas at all in charge of such a critical organization.
So, please, tell me I’m wrong.
From all my sources it is true.
WOW. Just imagine the field of available and qualified candidates, men (and ‘men?) who have combat tour after combat tour under their belts, not to mention drill sergeant tours in between. Why would they NOT choose among them??
It’s true. She’s slick of sleeve. But, something in the milk ain’t clean because the initial allegations were sex with a junior soldier and drinking. Looks like Longo lost.
DaveO,
Of course Longo lost. He had no chance against someone anointed such as CSM King.
Diversity makes us stronger.
Degrees from diploma mills…I wonder if the GI Bill paid for those…
but it appears to be much ado about nothing…there’s nothing to see here, move along, move along….

She is an AG soldier; given her rank and the effects of transformation on AG units not surprising she is a slick sleeve. Of course if she had really wanted to deploy she would have found a way.
Longo’s mistake is he rushed to judgment–sometimes one must let the fire smelter a bit more.
My guess is she will be soon reassigned to other duties.
You hit the nail on the head: “…had she really wanted to deploy she would have found a way.”
Did Longo rush to judgment? Or is loss of confidence in the senior enlisted not a reason for relief? Or is it only reason for relief of certain non-preferred genders and ethnicities?
Having spent 22 years as a G1, I can say without a doubt she could have found a way to deploy – at least in the corps, there is no shortage of units who want to deploy an adjutant/g1 ho will support the killers during deployments. It took work, but I managed combat deployments and years overseas.
She says it is racial? Where the hell did that come from. There is no evidence of any kind of racism by anybody including herself, yet there it is. There also has been a great job scrubbing the original articles when this first came out. The articles mentioned her fraternizing with Jr NCO’s. Here is an article that goes into detail concerning her bogus school education record. I think she deserves this award. It is the “Combat Avoidance Ribbon” for three decades of dodging danger. It’s color yellow, for obvious reasons, and red on the edges, to denote the blood of others who – unlike her – dared go into harm’s way and risk their lives for this country.
