Sir, the captain has the right to his opinion, and although I haven't been there in many a year, I noticed this phenomenon as well. It certainly didn't bother me though. Perhaps this officer is something of a holy roller and it bugged him. But I don't think it was an insult to Australia, and neither did some other folks judging by the remarks. Cut him some slack here, willya?
Lesson from grandma - "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all". Judgment is the better part of valor sometimes, and the good Captain had little business writing to the paper.
On a related note, perhaps he could have consulted with his Marines and obtained their opinion and input?
I'm with Col P -- whether the good Captain is correct or not, that's a rude way to treat your host.
I was always taught that when visiting someone else's home--and that must apply to thier country as well--I had no business telling them how I thought they should live. I agree that is not a diplomatic faux pas, but still, it is so uncool. The good captain has some issues,, probably involving seeing certain parts while showering to go into town.
I too believe this capt. is a bit of a holy roller or a massive prude. I think someone should tell him that just because the good ladies are letting it all hang out does not mean he has to look.
Well,ya,don't insult your allies,being from
Canada, I'm sure the good Capt'n had his rea
sons, but hey, lets keep the focus on the real
enemys,the Jihadys!

It's not a huge diplomatic faux pas, LtCol P.
