Visit to VMI

Over Thanksgiving I visited VMI. I really like the New New Barracks, very classy design.

Drove my in-laws to the VMI Museum (they are Older and It was Raining) and then wanted to go to the Marshall Museum.

In order to do so because of the new traffic pattern, I had to drive off post, up Main Street, turn on to Letcher Avenue and then go the Marshall Museum. I am not sure who the Brain Surgeon was that came up with that, but they really need to rethink it.

I understand that the Superintendent wants to keeps cars from in front of barracks for safety reasons, but the traffic pattern just defies common sense.

I had a chance to visit Adam Volant while in Lexington. What a great guy who is doing a terrific job as the Executive Vice-President of the VMI Alumni Association. Had a chance to just shoot the breeze about several items, one of which involved an Alumnus who recently applied for a job at VMI. He did not get the job, but learned so when he received the Institute Report.

Regardless of whether one is a graduate of VMI or not, when one applies for a job if they are not selected one should get a letter saying thanks for applying but you were not selected.

Word on the street (this did not come from Adam Volant) is that Human Resources does a very poor job of communicating with those who apply. In one case they forwarded by accident an email to someone who had applied for job with an attached document entitled Rejection Letter. This is a case of ready, fire, aim. VMI can and should do better than this.
