Not A Good Sign
By Lt Col P
Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial.
Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.
I am fucking speechless.

Despicable. However I commend the SEALs for requesting the court-martial in lieu of NJP. Maybe they're sacrificing their careers, but maybe it'll put an end to such nonsense.
Sunlight.
Too bad he didn't have a bloody stump for a neck instead of a bloody lip! I know that sounds primitive and vindictive, but that's how I feel about anybody who kills other people the way the Blackwater men died.
Should of just capped the SOB's.
It seems to me that this is another effort by the administration to grind down and demoralize the military. I do not think that this effort is out-of-the-blue stupid. It is part of a systematic effort to destroy the military. Think about it. The only part of the government that is not totally corrupted is the military. When you look at it in the larger context: Destruction of small business credit, unprecedented deficit spending, destruction of the private sector, massive borrowing from our potential enemies, unvetted czars, it makes sense.
all I could think of was the late Harry "Breaker " Morant and his last poem:
But we bequeath a parting tip
For sound advice as such men
As come across in transport ship
To polish off the Dutchmen!
If you encounter any Boers
You really must not loot 'em,
And if you wish to leave these shores
For pity's sake don't shoot 'em!
And if you'd earn a D.S.O.-
Why every British sinner
Should know the proper way to go
Is: 'Ask the Boer to dinner'!
i will not justify punching someone, but still i hope any punishment they get is minimal
I think the issue here is that he's claiming he was assaulted while in custody, not while being taken into custody. There's a subtle but significant difference between the two: use of force to subdue a resisting target, and the use of force to assault a restrained detainee.
What everyone is jumping on and seeing this as is that while he was in custody, he was assaulted by his captors.
The little details in words.
Having said that, whatever happens we still lose. In the arab/pan-islamic world, no matter what happens, we're the bad guys. If the SEALs are aquitted, it's the Great Satan, the Zionist Supporter, perverting justice to protect its vicious hired killers. If the SEALs are guilty, it just proves what is suspected, that all Americans are dirty bastards, morally inferior to Muslims and Asians.
For the record, I live in Malaysia. My heart got left behind in austin 12 years ago and never made it back.
Anyone who is even the slightest bit surprised by this has not been paying attention. Only the hopelessly naive believe that those who create these conditions care one whit about any of those that they send in harm's way. Pep rallys end in high school.
They only think of you as expendable cannon fodder, and will dispose of you as needed.
HotAir seems to have a good take on this story: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/11/24/three-navy-seals-court-martialed-after-giving-most-wanted-iraqi-terrorist-a-fat-lip/
Some points I have not seen here: the SEALs requested the court martial vs the NJP and are not dumb, the SEALs likely have evidence in their favor, they may want the exposure of silly rules this brings, the terrorist could have self inficted the injury or gotten it from the Iraqi security and chosen to blam the SEALs instead, because this was reported to Iraqi security it also had to go up the chain on our side (can't appear to cover anything up), if SEALs wanted to hurt someone they could do so without leaving a mark. I initialy might think of this as another example of weak PC crap, but now I think the SEALs will win and change some much needed attitudes and maybe even rules.
Personally my thoughts are: if the SEALs did assault him while in custody, then they need to be held accountable. If they didn't, then they need to be exonerated.
And while there are lots of people saying that he got the least of what he deserved, the core issue is that we are America. We are the Good Guys. We do NOT beat up prisoners in our custody.
Like it or not, we are held to a higher standard than most.
It's because we're the Good Guys.

There is nothing the Administration and/or the Pentagon could say to justify charges against these SEALs...........and am dumbfounded at any Officer giving the order to proceed with charges.
