Gun-Day Sunday: The Robinson XCR

By Lt Col P

Just took the plunge on a gun that I've had my eye on for a couple of years-- the Robinson XCR, in 7.62x39mm no less! Yes, I've heard good things and bad things, but my assessment is that the gun has had the kinks wrung out. And then, I saw one on Gunbroker.com (where else??) and it sang out to me-- slightly used and broken in, with sights affixed, several magazines, and some extras. And the price was right. After a couple of emails with the seller-- turns out he bought it while *he* was in Iraq-- and with the ever-ready Loudoun Guns, I realized that the transaction was do-able. So all I have to do is wait til I get back, complete the paperwork and it's mine. N I C E.

I had originally been looking at an XCR in 6.8mm, but when I saw this one, I realized that in 7.62x39 it fit the bill better, because I already have assloads of ammo for it, and we *know* that the round will do the deed. I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Yesterday (Sunday)I drove to Cologne.
While I was there I went with a Veteran (Surgeon) of the Iraq-Iran war to visit the grave of another veteran of the Iraq- Iran War.
This veteran died of cancer after the war.
By coincidence a Mosque just happens to be next to the cemetery even though it has no relationship to the cemetery. I saw that someone had sprayed graffiti on the Mosque.
It said, We build you a Mosque- You hit our children.
I thought to myself Muslims hit their children so what? If I had 10 dollars for every time that my father had hit me I would be able to buy a new house. I never held it against my father though because I never thought, at least as far as I can remember, that he ever hit me for no reason. Usually I had hit my younger brother. My younger brother and I were locked in a cycle of insulting and hitting. The way that most parents handled a situation like that back then was to hit their kids. That was not so long ago. OK, if you are under 25 it was a really long time ago but it you are over 50 it is like it was just yesterday.
So when I got married my wife and I discussed corporal punishment. I said, "I support it. I got hit when I was a kid and I turned in to a responsible citizen." She said, "What did you get hit for?" I said, for hitting my brother. She said, "Did you ever stop hitting your brother? I immediately admitted to my wife that corporal punishment was a stupid idea.
Yet, the slogan scrawled on the wall may have been about something other than corporal punishment. There may have been some kind of altercation in the area involving Muslims in the recent past.
There are people all over Europe, as there are in the US, trying to spread a general distrust of Muslims. These people learn about Islam from a Catholic Priest or a Protestant minister, or from a book and think that they are an expert on Islam.
It should be apparent to any fair minded person that you can only begin to learn about Islam by studying it with several Muslim Scholars who represent several of the different Muslim subdivisions. It is common knowledge that there are many different sub divisions of Islam. We also know that there are many different subdivisions of people calling themselves Christians. Therefore If I make the statement that the differences between Islam and Christianity are only cosmetic, on one level this statement would not make any sense. But, I think that on another broad level it does make sense.
I once saw a religious conference in which representitives from many different religions took part. The one thing in which most of the participants agreed upon was the idea that we are saved by our good works. The only dissenters were some right wing American protestants. Now I wonder how many Christians would still be hitting their kids if it were not for secular western psychologists convincing so many people what a stupid idea it is? The Muslims are a generation behind some enlightened westerners and right in step with others here in the west. So are they a threat to us?
Many people are now trying to use the actions of Major Hassan to try to condemn Islam. But the true thing is that his actions do not need to be condemned. They are the perfectly appropriate defense of the US Constitution which all the other officers of the US military have been to corrupt to carry out. Taking part in a war of aggression and occupation is a crime which is far worse than even being a serial killer. There is no need to resort to religion to defend or explain his actions.
His orders were simply a catalyst which made him realize that he must now choose sides between being a professional officer and being a political lackey. Will he defend the constitution or will he defend the military industrial complex which does not defend Americans in the least but oppresses them.
There was a personal event in my life that also acted as a catalyst in my decision to work for the East German Intelligence Services in the 1980s. Now some people who are familiar with my case may say that because of this event my decision was not an ideologically based decision. But, if they did say that they would be wrong. A catalyst does not change an outcome it only speeds it up.
I was wrong about one thing though. I was wrong about who I thought that I was working for. I was actually working for the KGB although I did not know it at the time, and the KGB has never told me this. You see at the time I thought that the Russians were a bunch of backward uncultured drunks. Yet at least some of them are so cultured they can pass themselves off as German Professors. It was not really very long ago that I figured out that my German communist friends were really Russians only posing as Germans. Now I understand why the Russians are still laughing their asses off.
In fact when I came to this conclusion something very interesting happened. About 2 seconds after I came to this conclusion a bunch of water bottles that I had stacked in the kitchen collapsed and rolled across the floor as if the Gods themselves were emphasizing the point.
Now I would like to close this story about the KGB by saying that because I have an ulterior motive for saying it the story is LIKELY to be a lie.
Some readers may need help in understanding the morals to this post. So, I will summarize the 3 morals. 1.)Do not hit your children. 2.)Islam and Christianity are only cosmetically different. 3.)Our understanding of any situation is influenced as much by what we do not know as what we think that we know.
Now if you are upset by the fact that I still have commissary and AFN previlages you should address your concerns to the Schinnen Army Garrison Commander, LTC, Fern Sumpter. But you will not get very far because I have already gotten to 3rd base. There are always some advantages to be had by having an affair with your boss.

Curt, I disagree with most everything you said. Further, you are either a liar or a braggart, neither of which most people would want to have anything to do with.

I have one of those bad boys and just love it. It took a while to get my mags to work right but otherwise the rifle is awesome.

Sadi McDaniel - You can get one for California, just check out Robarm website for California legal rifles.

I love my XCR. Nothing better. Take your pick, 5.56, 6.5, 6.8SPC or 7.62x39 - all on the same platform. And all without a billion little parts to loose, break, etc.

CONGRATS and welcome to the XCR family. ;-)
