Unfortunately like Ackerman her words are nothing more than banal mutterings from a rather ineffectual Speaker of the House and a intellectual lightweight whose views do not reflect those of a majority of American’s be they Democrats or Republicans.
I am a big believer in the subordination of the military to civilian control. I am also a big believer in the Chain of Command for making recommendation on National Strategy. I also served many years ago in the same Brigade as General Stanley McChrystal. After reading about the dust up over whether he was or was not insubordinate to the President I have concluded that most of the media or politicians have not bother to listen to or read what he said. Rather they have cherry picked the pieces of the story, which fits their preferred political objectives.
Now for Professor Bruce Ackerman. He is a well-recognized constitutional scholar. He should stick to writing about the Constitution. Not having served in the military, nor having had any real experience with the military, his writing in last weeks Washington-Post was nothing more than an exercise in academic banality. I suspect, he too is guilty of cherry picking from media clips of the speech and he has not bothered to read it or to watch it before making his rush to judgment.
As for Nancy Pelosi and her stupid remark that General’s should follow, and God you have to love this, “line of command.” Again, she is sputtering forth with words, which will appease her constituency in San Francisco. Unfortunately like Ackerman her words are nothing more than banal mutterings from a rather ineffectual Speaker of the House and a intellectual lightweight whose views do not reflect those of a majority of American’s be they Democrats or Republicans
I am not finished yet, to the pundits, in particular those of Fox News, they are just as guilty as Ackerman and Pelosi for spewing forth banal pronouncements in order to stir up their base.
The really unfortunate thing about all of this, being the good soldier he is, General McChrystal cannot respond as he has a war to fight.
