By Lt Col P

With a Hotel Tango to a commenter at MMM, we take you to Red State's outstanding remembrance of the Ploesti Raid, sixty-six years ago today.

Go read it all. It's an amazing tale.

My former neighbor here in San Antonio was a B-24 pilot on one that raid. His plane was badly shot up but he managed to get to Turkey where he and his crew were interned and treated well by the neutral Turks. The alternate would probably have been a German Stalag

Maybe 15-19 years ago (can't Remember the exact year), I was invited to a dinner where Dr Roscoe Brown Jr (ex Commander 100th Fight Squadron) gave his flight jacket to a museum

I was seated next to a B-14 tail gunner who was on the Polesti raid.

Where did we (and were do we still) get such heros?
