ASU Uniform Variants

Not sure what the Army Uniform Board is up to, but it is clear they have too much time on their hands. Here are pictures of two variants of the ASU for Officers, one would have sewn on epaulets (like the current Greens) with a should board that would slide over the epaulets for Dress–making the Army look like the Air Force; the second variant would be pin on epaulets with the traditional shoulder boards for Dress. What a waste of time. While I won’t have to wear the uniform as a Class A (retirement looms) making one uniform for Class A and Dress makes sense, particularly since we wear them so infrequently. Of course given what has come out of the Army Uniform Board and their decision we would wear white shirts when we wear the uniform as Class A or Class B (with and without jacket) making us look like Shopping Mall Guards I should not have expected any less.

And they actually found a guy whose name is “Model.” But he needs a haircut.

Seriously, what are they doing? Go back to pinks and greens, or the Ike jacket.

  2. Doug (old Army Corporal) says:

I really, really hate the berets

  3. Bill says:

Why can Monty and other Europeans look “jaunty” in a beret, and even look like a soldier (Look at the tams and other British uniform hats, and they’re some bad-ass folks), and an American looks like a doofus, at best, in one. A friend commented once that a hat must serve 3 purposes: keep the sun out of your eyes, rain off your glasses, and sun off your bald spot. A beret only does the last one. It’s time to say it was a bad idea.

Maybe I will get off my ass and finally post about the CF that is the new “Navy Working Uniform.”

I just don’t understand why folks are focusing on uniforms like this when we are at war…

  5. SSG Jeff (USAR) says:

Berets suck with the ACU but I can see wearing them with a dress uniform – after all, they can’t look worse than the Garrison cap, can they?

And I see that shoulder sleeve insignia is still going away.

I do wish they’d at least gone with the gray shirt idea though – nothing on a uniform should be solid white in my opinion.

Gives the wrong impression – people might confuse you with the French. :)

  6. At least they’re not copying the Marine Corps like they did with the ACUs.

  7. Lawrence says:

Yeah, we can’t look too “military” in our uniforms now can we? We might offend someone’s sensibilities. /sarc

My favorite mistake is the badges at waist level… yeah, I need that thing flapping around.

I took that survey on PEO Soldier. It’s like the Russians from “Hunt for Red October” actually made it, and got put in the Army Uniform Board from the witness protection program.
