USMC Selections and Promotions

Playing catch-up here after a long drill weekend. Thanks to BR BullNav for rooting through a heap of message traffic, we are pleased to bring you news of the best and brightest of the VMI Marines...

* LtCols Chris Goff, Wayne Sinclair, Steve Neary, Jim Mumma and Chris Starling, all '88, all selected for Colonel

* LtCol John Giltz '89, selected for the College of Naval Warfare... GO SHOVELHEAD!!!

* LtCol Bill Bowers '90, selected for the National War College

Congrats to all. Go forth and do great things.

it never ceases to amaze me -- VMI grads account for a tiny percentage of the overall officer force, but they are disproportionatly selected for command billets -- in *very* high numbers. Outstanding.

Way to go '88 BR's!!

Every man on that list were great cadets back in the day. I'm sure they are even better warriors today.

Stephen Neary is a great man I had the chance to serve in combat with him he led his men in 06 good man I would love to hear from him

I had the opportunity to serve under the command of Col Sinclair as a young Sgt of Marines while he was an RS CO in Phoenix AZ. He showed me how to look at the broader picture and that sometimes answers to complex problems are found in the military lessons learned in our past. He reminded us daily that above all we were bread to be warriors and held us to that standard. He is one of the finest Marine officers I have ever met.
