'04 Roanoker Blogs From Iraq
By Lt Col P
Talk about a diamond in a goat's ass-- I found CPT Rich Connaroe's Iraq blog in the otherwise execrable Roanoke Times.

Rich Connaroe graduated from Northside High School in 2000 and VMI in 2004. Now a Captain in the U.S. Army, Connaroe begins a one-year deployment to Iraq in August. During that time, he plans to make regular blog posts that he hopes will connect readers of the The Roanoke Times to U.S. soldiers who are deployed in Iraq.
Go get 'em Captain!

LTC P., Thank you for the encouragement.
John Noonan, I am surprised that anybody remembers that I wrote at VMI. Then again, writing with the goal of inciting the corps must be memorable. I write nothing of the sort now. I try to write: 1) insightful pieces to civilians about military life or Iraq in general (also printed in the paper) or 2) quick updates on what the team is doing (posted online). How are you living these days?
I used to have an awesome editor that would print any dribble or pontification that I produced. Now I must be mindful who I am and how I am perceived. And a public affairs office reviews anything that I submit to be printed in the paper. For them I am thankful.

heh -- charlie and I hired Rich to write opinion pieces for THE CADET back when we were editors. Guess he's picking the pen back up.
