OT – I took my son out there last Sunday to shoot. We took our .22s (his Marlin single-shot and my souped up 10/22). I also let him shoot my AR15 (which needs work desparately).

It certainly sucks that we dont have Citadel on the schedule. However, if you look at VMI’s record from last year at face value, VMI had a ridiculously hard out of conference schedule. I mean we are playing Ohio, W&M who pounded us last year, and Richmond. Richmond is usually in the running for the I AA championship and I dont expect it to be any different this year when looking at how they played UVA.
Snap quiz: when was the last time VMI beat El Cid?
I can recall on the fall-1986 game.
VMI beat El Cid in 2003 in the rain in Charlotte, then lost a hard-fought game in the closing seconds the next year, then there was no game, then two losses, and no game this year.
My understanding is that the out-going Citadel AD didn’t see the need to play us (he was former NC State AD) and they were very short on out of conference slots due to the fact they have been playing two SEC or ACC teams a year the past few years in order to fund some stadium refurbishment projects.
Went to the game. We looked strong. I think we’ll have a tough game v. W and M, who are a perennial National Championship contender, but I am cautiously optimistic that we could perform well in the conference.
It is just as well-you would have gotten your butts kicked by a superior institution of both learning and football. That’s Citadel with a capital C by the way.
Well, Skip, then at least that’d be ONE thing that El Cid can do better than Mother I!!
