Wednesday Gun Lust

BR BullNav and I were talking about this the other day– our standing lists of gun wants. We both have them. Mine is actually written down, along with other stuff, on my “Never-Ending Gear List.” And over the last year I’ve been able to knock two of them off. In no particular order, the rest are:

Service-grade Mauser K98 (a little blood and iron never hurt anyone)

Finnish Mosin-Nagant (I don’t want a Russian one, and I like the Suomi)

Ruger .22/45 Mk III and a Ruger Single Six (the only thing better than one .22 pistol is two)

DS Arms SA58 Para Tactical (if LV says it’s good, it’s good)

Charter Arms Undercover (who doesn’t need a B.U.G.?)

Glock 21 (gotta see what all the fuss is about)

Wilson Combat Border Patrol Model (the fighting 870)

Winchester 94 30-30 (it’s a piece of America, dammit)

M1 Carbine (I can’t get it out of my head)

Spartan / Remington 12-ga Coach Gun w/ exposed hammers (the ultimate home defense gun, quoth LtCol Cooper)

Robinson XCR in 6.8mm (I admire the concept, but I’ve heard both good and bad about it)

And yours would be??

“M1 Carbine (I can’t get it out of my head)”

My Saginaw SG manufactured Carbine is the most fun I’ve had shooting a firearm in a long time. There’s just something about the M-1 Carbine that is ridiculously fun. If/when you do purchase one, I highly recommend buying one that is original USGI manufacture, either from the CMP or elsewhere. They’re fun to shoot regardless, but they’re even more fun when you know you’re shooting a 60 year old historical firearm.

Good luck on the Winchester 30/30. Since they sold out the originals are going thru the stratosphere in price.

Glock’s own website sucks royal ass.

    Here’s a better site:

    http://glock.risk-group.com/__english/__main.htm

  4. James says:

M1903 Springfield – it’s just a cool weapon, and a part of America.

Also, a Mauser K98 would be great too. Yes, I admit that I’m a bolt action guy.

  5. GregS says:

    In no particular order:

    - M1 Garand

    - K98

    - Springfield M1A1

Although, living in NJ you never know how long your Second Amendment rights will last….

  6. bullnav says:

    Greg – based on today’s SCOTUS ruling, I don’t think NJ gets a vote…

We are all entitled to our preferences as to guns.

Here are a couple of thoughs on the Charter Arms Undercover, it is a good piece, however:

I know of no laser sight currently available for it, and the older you get the harder it is to see the sights on a snubbie.

Laser sights are however available for Tarus or Smith & Wesson.

I find that to be magical on mine.

I do like Charter Arms, I recommend the .44 Special (My Bulldog is an original “Son of Sam Special) The front sight is of sufficient size to have “painted” international orange and is very easy to acquire. It kicks like a mule, and speaks with more authority than a .38.

We can only spend one dollar once, sometimes it’s good to think twice.

    Just my thoughts

  8. Brian says:

    My full list:

    M-1 garand

    M-1 carbine

    an AR

    an AK

    Mauser 98

    870 wingmaster

    Smith 617

    Colt Python

    some sort of 1911

    1903 springfield

    Beretta O/U shottie

    Marlin 1894C

    …all one of these days.

  9. LtCol P says:

    Brian:

I like the way you roll, my brutha. The only reason I don’t have the Garand, the AR, the AK and the 1911 on my list is that I got ‘em all. And an 870 too. And like yours, mine is a long term project too.

  10. Mike says:

Winchester Model 97, Wish i still had it.

  11. Matt says:

I have one of the Finnish Mosin-Nagant rebuilds, the M24(I don’t have it handy to check the model number). Two piece stock, heavier barrel, good sights and decent trigger. Shoots like a dream, sligthly heavier than the Russian M91/30, but hangs well off-hand.

For Mauser I wound up with a Czech Vz24 made by Brno. Nice product improved K98, everything a “Mauser” should be.

Purchased both rifles through an MWR sportsman center years ago when they still sold interesting stuff.

  12. bullnav says:

Here is a little of what I need:

    Ruger Hawkeye .308 w/Leupold Vari-XIII 3-10X

Ruger Deerfield Carbine (no longer in producion; .44Magnum on a Mini-14

    action)

    M1 Garand (CMP)

    AK variant

SA M1A (not settled on a grade)

    Ruger Mini-14 6.8 SPC

    Kimber SIS Custom RL (full-size)

    Sig-Sauer P220 SA

Ruger Alaskan Super Redhawk in .454 Casull

    Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum

    Winchester 9422 in .22WMR

  13. Glenn says:

Hmm, my list as I purchased them…

    Ruger 10/22

    Chinese SKS

    Uberti (Colt replica) .45 SAA

    Springfield XD 40

Mossberg 12 ga Persuader- for at home(Mean looking thing with a heat guard, collapsable stock, and a hand strap at the pump)

    Mossberg 20 ga pump

    Mossberg .410 pump

And next week a HK USC (the butt ugly grey .45) version of the UMP .54 to be converted asap

    On the list:

    Sig P220 Carry SAS DAK

    KelTec 380

    Some AR variant Some 1911

We just moved from California to Colorado, now I can finally get decent guns…and a CC Permit.

  14. Glenn says:

Oops, I meant SIG P220 COMPACT SAS DAK

(It fits my mitt really well)

  15. Mike says:

Can’t speak to the others on the list, but the Winchester Model 94 is one sweet rifle. A retired USMA Col passed one on to me as a gift. Can’t thank him enough. Just wish I could shoot it more often. It is easy to see why it is a piece of Americana.

  16. Ruger 10 22 Match Barrel

The Ruger 10 22 is one of the most fun rifles there
