A Foul Case of Appeasement

Thought I’d Highlight Dr. Seuss’s other patriotic work ahead of a CGI flick this weekend.

Also, the Lorax is about the tragedy of the commons, not preserving the environment or the precious “trees”. But don’t get me started…

Sir…. Recruit Lorax respectfully requests permission to speak for the trees, sir.

  2. John says:

that’s interesting. The Lorax has traditionally been a Green movement wet dream. Though I think that the tragedy of the commons and mainstream environmentalism are -at the very least- distant cousins.

The Lorax as an icon for the Green movement is such an excellent illustration of how liberals completely miss the point. Of both their icon and of their own agenda.

Like this clip of an interview with a code pink demostrator and the interview was interupted by another code pink demostrator.

  4. Code Pink = Hilarious.

Reporter: “If only there was an organization sworn to defend that free speech?”

Damn Hippy: “Wouldn’t that be great?!?”

Reporter: “That would be outstanding, right?

    Oh well.

  5. Kevin Daly says:

    1) There is no inconsistency between the tragedy of the commons and the issue of environemtal degradation: the disastrous effects of the promotion of individual, corporate and national interests above all other concerns in the use of global resources fit both perfectly.

    2) Daniel, cross out Hitler and write Ahmadinejad and you a) look like and idiot and b) make light of Hitler’s millions of victims. Hitler was the leader of a movement and state that was not only toxic within its own borders but was also obviously rabidly expansionist (and it was that expansionism, so long as it was at the expense of people with funny names who didn’t matter, that was the subject of appeasement). Ahmadinejad is simply an ignorant jerk with thuggish instincts and a taste for offensive rhetoric. Iran has not invaded anybody for a long time and shows no signs of doing so, unlike other countries I could name. They are more paranoid than anything else (possibly because people keep attacking them, but also because external enemies are good for bringing the masses into line).
