Gun-Day Monday: The M1014
By Lt Col P
A commenter asked a question on the weapon brandished by the Marine in the video clip I posted below. I replied to him by email, but I thought it would be a good thing to educate the masses. Hold all questions til the end.
Meet the M1014, the Joint Services Combat Shotgun.

It's a Benelli 12-ga autoloader, with a telescoping buttstock-- huh huh, heh heh, I said "butt"-- a 1913 rail and good sturdy ghost ring sight. It replaced the Mossbergs and Remingtons previously in service. I saw several in service in Iraq back in 2004, and although like all shotguns a niche weapon, it is a useful piece of gear and a good thing to have around. The one drawback I heard about was that since it's an autoloader, it's not as omnivorous as a pump gun.
Write in and let us know what you think if you've carried one, or carry one now.
One more Monday gun fact below the fold...
I got an email alert from the NRA-ILA today, "House Committee Passes Important Self-Defense Bill!"
"On Monday, February 4, by a vote of 17-4 the Virginia House Courts of Justice Committee overwhelmingly passed House Bill 710, sponsored by Delegate Bill Janis (R-56). This important legislation will further enhance your right to self-defense in your home by protecting crime victims who are justified in using force from civil actions brought by a criminal attacker. With this action taken by the committee, HB710 now moves to the House floor where it will be considered by the full House of Delegates during the next few days."
Make that Bill Janis VMI '84. Heard From Today!

Here in Michigan, the Castle Doctrine was passed a couple of years ago.
Now we just need to have the legislature pass the pending bill that eliminates "Gun Free Zones" for CPL holders, or rather "Criminal Empowerment Zones" and we will be all set...
Gun Day Monday is even better than Gun Day Sunday, because now you have something to look forward to at the beginning of the new work week, for us who have transitioned to the pogue life.
I've only handled sporting Benellis, but a couple of hunting buddies who are waterfowlers/goose hunters swear by them, although that's meaningless to a combat arm, especially a niche one. My own home protection shotgun is a Moss. 590, because when I want to punch big holes in something, I definitely believe in the KISS principle.
yah, more gun days please. These are popular. And they rhyme!
Call me old fashioned, but I would rather have a pump than an auto-loader,ie reliability and in the dusty enviro, it is far more reliable
Yes I too use a Mosberg for defence of the home 20!! Along with the M1a1!
Just shot the civie M4 version on Friday at the SHOT Show. What fun.
Posted a pic from the range over at GunPundit.

Dang,
Is it just me or am I the only one to point out that the Milcombudgetbeancounters have this "THING" for Italian arms? Really now, ask any JAR about the virtues of the Ber 9. Spongy clip spring that stoved more rounds than it fired. ZERO knock-down cape. You had better luck just throwin the damn thing at your close range tango.
And I'll take a Remm. shorty with Deer slugs or that nasty little BOLLO round any day of the year over the most sexed up Benelli..
US arms are still the BEST!
