VMI at the Rose Parade

Got this from a BR this morning.

Sorry to say I missed the parade. We were in the process of digging out from a somewhat large amount of snow we received early New Year’s Day.

I must also say it has been awhile since I saw the regimental band perform: I don’t remember bagpipes…

BR: Bagpipes came in under Bunting in late 90s, have been universally praised. Last time I remember pipes on the parade ground was the visit from the Duke of Atholl and his private army in the fall of ’87…

    Good to see you back!

  2. SSG Jeff (USAR) says:

To their credit, not only do they play bagpipes, they play bagpipes WELL.

Which is important, especially if you’ve ever heard bagpipes played poorly.

I can’t tell the difference myself.

Here’s a link to a very good video of the parade, from ground level perspective.

    …and they are very good!

  5. Andrew says:

Discovery HD captured the parade brilliantly and the Band looked good. Many will be getting the kudos they rightly deserve when school starts back up on the 13th.

  6. JMF'98 says:

I always get a speck of sentiment in my eye everytime I hear ‘Shenandoah’.

I remember the first time the pipes played during a normal review parade and holy crap, yo….they’ve really come a long long way since. They sound spectacular now.
