Hey look! Blue tiger stripe. Just like our recently retired BDUs.
The 64th Aggressor Squadron’s F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcon head to the fight after refueling Aug. 28 during Red Flag 07-3 exercise at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. Red Flag tests aircrew war-fighting skills in realistic combat situations. The aircraft fly missions during the day and night to the nearby Nevada Test and Training Range to simulate an air war. So anyway… yeah, there was a short period there where the Air Force wanted to paint its people like its planes.
It could be worse though, they could have designed BDUs that glow in the dark if mixed with certain types of detergent.
Oh…wait.

Er, the “glow in the dark” thing is NOT a Air Force specific problem, you know. I know personally that the Army Combat Uniform, at least, includes the same warnings against optical brighteners (and starch. Don’t forget the No Starch rule).
And a google search reveals that the Marines have similar instructions in their uniform care regulations…
Oh trust me, there is no way I’m going to suddenly ‘forget’ about the whole ‘no starch, no iron, no dryclean’ thing and suddenly start treating my ABUs like they’re BDUs,
Of course, that doesn’t mean the chain of command won’t forget and start saying stupid stuff like “These things look great when you starch them, how about we add some squadron patches for morale and so forth, while we’re at it how about we iron those permanent creases so we can slice people in the hallway…”
Of course, whatever wierd things the AF brass think of, they can’t possibly come up with anything as bad as the official PT uniform shorts again, can they?…. CAN THEY????
