Thunderbirds in the Backyard

By John

So last month Bullnav was plenty eager to show off his Blue Angels pictures, from their practice demos flown directly over his neighborhood.

Well buddy, I'll see you your pictures and raise you a video.

Here's a quickie clip (six seconds) of the Air Force's fighter demonstration team, The Thunderbirds, buzzing directly over my backyard. I think that the field back behind the house was some sort of ground reference point for the T-birds, they spent the better part of three afternoons zipping around directly overhead. I'll set up with some real camera equipment next year, I think.

This was the perfect Saturday afternoon, by the way. I woke up at 7am and got coals glowing in my smoker, spent the entire, beautiful sunny day on my back porch drinking beer, smoking a Texas style brisket, and enjoying my own private air show overhead.

Yeah, life was pretty freakin' okay.

Cool. Nothing like being able to drink beer and watch high performance fighter jets from the comfort of your own deck.

Oh, by the way, I still have more BA pics to post, but that will have to wait.

Nice.....

Years ago, I heard a LOUD jet flying overhead. I live about a mile and a half from our local little airport. The biggest thing we ever see is a Gulf Stream coming in for the races (I live close to Michigan Int. Speedway)

When I looked up I saw a B-1....I was just a little surprised. As it turns out, I went into a local lawn mower shop to get some parts and on the wall were pictures of an Air Force pilot and B-1. I mentioned the bomber I saw the week before and it turns out that it was their sister!!! She had done the flyby's the week before.

I mention this because I was able to grab my video camera and get some good video, she was even closer than the fighters in this video. Needless to say, I traded some video and got some free parts!!

Zoom Zoom

Few years back I had an opportunity to meet the Thunderbird. Sharp young group of pilots at the time. Very impressive. Honored to have them controlling my airspace.

A few years back, I was going to the nursing home to visit my grandma. It was just about nightfall, when I heard a soft deep jet engine that I hadn't heard before. I threw my eyes heavenward, and lo and behold there was the belly of a B-2 spirit, clearly outlined by its lights. It was beautiful.

I don't know what he was doing over Kentucky at about 2000 feet.

I don't know what he was doing over Kentucky at about 2000 feet.

Initiating a bunch of UFO sightings, probably.

I live in Aurora, CO not too far from Buckley AFB. A few years back I hosted a Memorial Day picnic & swim in the backyard. A flight of F-15's was scheduled to overfly the parade on Colfax Ave (about 9 blocks north of us). When they turned back to base, they must have used the pool as a turn point, They screamed by low enough to count the hard points and snapped into a sharp turn to head back to Buckley. About 4 seconds of total intensity. Sweet
