Tactical Tailor's MALICE pack

By Lt Col P

Does any one have a MALICE Pack, or know someone who does? Please email me (ltcolp at op-for dot com) or post a comment with the pros and cons of this piece of gear, especially if you have jumped with one and subjected it to good hard use.

(If you have negative comments, keep them on the up-and-up, no need to bash anyone.)

My buddy just came back from the box with one of these, and he absolutely swears by it.

Although I think it was issued to him?

Whether or not it's worth 190 bucks is another question, I suppose.

That looks something like the "super" Ruck they customize over at General Jackson's here at Bragg. It's basically an ALICE, but they reinforce everything and then sew on a bunch of new pouches. Cost you an arm-and-a-leg, but I guess it's an airborne thing.

Are you in a jump unit now? ANGLICO or Recon?

I've been using the Tactical Tailor 3-Day Plus pack for eight years, and have only had to replace some of the Fastex buckles, there have been no other failures or weaknesses. This has been light non-field use, but it did just fine for a (staff) assignment in Kosovo. TT's people were very helpful getting my brother's protective vest carrier set up when he wanted to upgrade.

I think the MALICE version 3 is probably the best, if most expensive, version. All ALICEs take some getting used to, being a framed pack. But the great thing about the MALICE V.3 is that if has a storage space for your sleeping back. Im on a state disaster response team and we sometimes travel via National Guard c-130s and the LoadMasters generally want you to have as little luggage as possible. THe Version 3 is the most expensive of the MALICE packs, and of course then you have to add frame and pads/straps.

Another excellent pack is the Camelbak BFM. Excellent amount of storage space and the most comfortable pack I have ever worn.
