Anti-War Film "Stuns" Venice
By John
A new film about the real-life rape and killing of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl by U.S. soldiers who also murdered her family stunned the Venice festival, with shocking images that left some viewers in tears."Redacted", by U.S. director Brian De Palma, is one of at least eight American films on the war in Iraq due for release in the next few months and the first of two movies on the conflict screening in Venice's main competition.
Inspired by one of the most serious crimes committed by American soldiers in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, it is a harrowing indictment of the conflict and spares the audience no brutality to get its message across.
De Palma, 66, whose "Casualties of War" in 1989 told a similar tale of abuse by American soldiers in Vietnam, makes no secret of the goal he is hoping to achieve with the film's images, all based on real material he found on the Internet.
"The movie is an attempt to bring the reality of what is happening in Iraq to the American people," he told reporters after a press screening.
Never trust someone who sells truth with a work of fiction.
Just sayin'.

oh, completely agree. It'll tank big time. Although it probably didn't cost too much to make.
Americans trust the military above all other institutions in this country. Hollywood will continue to learn this lesson the hard way.
Does the movie include the consequences faced by these particular Marines? Or does the movie leave out this little detail?
I doubt you will ever see a movie about Iraq and even Afghanistan that will show the US in a positive light.
The ironic thing is that AlQuaeda and other Islamic-fascist orginazations use the movies produced by Hollywood as propaganda to show how the west is a bunch of degenerates and immoral scum that needs to be destroyed.
When some of Al Queada camps were taken in Afghanistan the GI's could not figure why the terrorist had so many copies of "Thelma and louise" until they read the Arabic subtitles and relized they were using the film to indoctornate their people to show how western woman behave on a daily basis.
Maybe the next attack in this country will be on Hollywood. No,why attack your best allie.
Maybe the next attack BY this country should be against the traitors of the left.
Imagine the howls of outrage on the left if someone made a movie about the DC Sniper, and made it an explicit indictment of all Muslims and/or Blacks. Of course, we on the right recognize that to do so would be grossly defamatory, inaccurate, rascist and a bunch of other bad stuff, which is why we wouldn't. US servicemen, however, while certainly a "visible minority", enjoy no such protection. Also, to judge by his movies, De Palma seems to have a pretty sick obsession with rape and other abuses of women. Sick bastard.
Impressive. Great execution on a great idea.
I have found here much useful information.
I like the post, and I agree somewhat with, To be very truthful.

DePalma is a slime and unfortunately indicative of the left in this country. They don't support the military. In fact, they despise it. And this movie is just one example of that contempt.
They take one incident and use it in "an attempt to bring the reality of what is happening in Iraq to the American people" when if fact it is just a small part of that reality - a aberration and not the norm. But what do they care as long as it helps their cause.
I'm not sure how many American people he is gonna bring "his" truth to though. My guess is the movie does poorly at the box office while winning the critical acclaim of his fellow leftist military haters.
