Evening Quote

By John

Columbia Journalism Review, on Scott Thomas Beauchamp:

How dare a college grad and engaged citizen volunteer to join the Army to fight for his country! (Which is something that most of the brave souls who inhabit the milblog community prefers to leave to others.)

Well...he's not a college grad, first of all, and, near as I can tell, he wasn't engaged to Elspeth so much as eloped with her, dumping his German "fiance" in the process after a lot of promises.

But, other than that, the sentence above is accurate.

(Except for the part about milbloggers preferring to let others fight for them, I mean.)

...Does this idiot realize that most milbloggers are either in, vets, or married to the service?

Does the CJR research their articles at all or are they like the TNR?

Except that the majority of the milblog community are ex- or retired military, who have already served, unlike the knuckle-head quoted above.

And except that he's not really there to fight for his country so much as to make a name for himself as a journalist. Pretty self centered doncha think? Classic illustration of liberal neurosis.
