Gay Explosion!

By John

Super!

Pentagon Confirms it Sought to Build 'Gay Bomb" - A Berkeley watchdog organization that tracks military spending said it uncovered a strange U.S. military proposal to create a hormone bomb that could purportedly turn enemy soldiers into homosexuals and make them more interested in sex than fighting.

Pentagon officials on Friday confirmed to CBS 5 that military leaders had considered, and then subsquently rejected, building the so-called "Gay Bomb."

Edward Hammond, of Berkeley's Sunshine Project, had used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain a copy of the proposal from the Air Force's Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio.

As part of a military effort to develop non-lethal weapons, the proposal suggested, "One distasteful but completely non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behavior."

Seems like a short term solution, as far as non-lethal options go. Unless the eggheads at Wright-Patt also figured out a way to chemically engineer Viagra into an aresol agent to go with...

And maybe attach a giant disco ball to the underbelly of a stealthy, gaydar evading HH-60 designed to hover over a target area while blasting ABBA's "Dancing Queen".....

Hey, it is the Air Force.

Your Air Force, people.

A few questions, sir, with your indulgence(although the mind is reeling):

1. Was this thought up on April 1st?
2. Why do these stories appear to most often emanate from California?
3. Are we ABSOLUTELY certain that it's the U.S. Air Force?
4. Where's my extra-strength Tylenol...and a pillow...and my eyeshades...and peace and quiet???

This is not exactly news. The Chicago Free Press reported this 2.5 years ago. See here:

Is anyone really surprised? The military does some of the zaniest shit sometimes... I'm not surprised by this.

Of course, once in awhile they hit the mark with their zany shit... like breaking the sound barrier... "stealth" technology... etc.

I am going to guess that this came out of a contractor operated R&D lab tasked with thinking "outside of the box." In this case, far away from "the" box.

OK, that would be a funny way to win a battle, BUT what if you lost the battle even though the gay bomb worked? That is a possibility.

Would you really want to be captured by a bunch a brand new homosexuals that are all revved up? Negative...

I am always amazed when people are amazed.

The US military is defacto the largest and best-funded research entity in the history of mankind. It will therefore have on it's roster of "research" basically everything and anything you can possibily think of that would in any way relate to offensive, defensive, logisitical and any other broad catagory of devise or plan that could possibly give the US an advantage over "the enemy".

That is thier Terms of Reference for any research proposal. It's essentially an open invitation to look at anything at all. And the funding they have access to means that anyone with a brain can get access to even a few thousand dollars to write up a basic concept paper that goes into the record and then becomes "something that the US Military Has Looked At".

I think this proposal was already tested, sort of like the old atom bomb tests, only this time on ships. It certainly would explain a lot of things about the U.S. Navy.

I think this is one of those ideas where your really have to look at the unintended consequences. I'm not sure making the enemy horny will gentle them right down, even if you expand their horizons. Let's see, didn't the Spartans have a gay thing going on, that sure cut down on their combat effectiveness.

JKB   ·  June 11, 2007 03:39 AM

It's kind of important considering that if we could build it, so could they. Knowing how something like this might work might help us defend against it...
;)

But a serious weapon? No.

I also question the timing.

Just because it sounds totally wacko does not mean it is not a real project in the weird, wonderful world of R & D. Ever hear of the "Bat Bomb"? It was not something from Batman's utility belt but an actual FDR approved WWII military project. Read "Bat Bomb: World War II's other secret weapon" by Couffer, University of Texas Press, 1992.

Sorta brings new meaning to the term "fix bayonets."

NSC   ·  June 12, 2007 06:26 AM

Wow, on the plus side though, it would be a great way to get California to render more support to the military.

Gaybomb; Freindly fire just got a whole lot scarier!

I'm sure that San Francisco would be delighted to host the weapons first test-fire. Though I'm not quite sure how the militaries would gauge its effectiveness. General"Look at 'em go. Its working!" SrA "Umm, we haven't fired it yet..."

Question though? How do you gauge the weapons effectiveness? You're aiming a weapon at a bunch of 18-30 men, thats supposed to increase thier libido. I'm sure the ladies will back me up on this, to the best of my knowledge there isn't an 18-30 year old man in the world who isn't at least a little bit horny right now as it is. If you ask them "Do you feel turned," most will say "Well, now that you mention it..."

Curtis   ·  June 12, 2007 09:32 AM

Being a charter member of Team L, may I state that if an 18-30 year old man were even remotely...enthusiastic...over this idea he probably wouldn`t be looking for a member of my Team.

You guys need to listen to more NPR. This was a question on "Wait Wati don't Tell Me", their news quiz show.

TomH - "Would you really want to be captured by a bunch a brand new homosexuals that are all revved up? Negative..."
That's what's known as "blowback". LOL

And finally - **looking at Slab, eyebrown raised** I won't forget that remark and next year in DC.......you'll pay!
