Picture of the Day: Force Projection Regular Old Deployment
By John
It walks like force-projection....it talks like force projection.... but our resident swabbie assures us that it's most definitely not force projection.
Carriers certainly do send a statement though, don't they?
05/22/07 - FROM LEFT, USS Higgins (DDG 76), USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), USS Antietam (CG 54), USS Denver (LPD 9), USS O'Kane (DDG 77) and USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) steam through the Gulf of Oman May 22, 2007. The ships are part of three different strike groups, the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group, Nimitz Carrier Strike Group and the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, that are on regularly scheduled deployments.
See? Just your regularly scheduled programing. Lesson learned: trust our intrepid Navy Commander.

Magnificent. LGF has posted video footage of their movements, flags and all. What beautiful, lethal ships we have.
Now, I said "show of force" which I think is different from "force projection."
A "show of force" is when you put a bunch of ships on someone's doorstep and say, "go ahead, I dare you."
"Force projection" is what we do all the time anyway (i.e., regular old deployment).
Now that we have that out of the way, upon further reflection, this is a "show of force."
How very proud you all must be to be Americans!
I'm very proud of my neighbours, and allies, to the south (allow me to clarify...directly to the south). Thank you for sharing the beautiful photograph.
There must be a moment at either dawn or dusk when the sheer beauty of the sea and sky almost takes one's breath away. Didn't mean to sound so sentimental.

I am unable to make a copy of this - I get an error message. Anyway to correct? Thanks for any help!
I could have reworded the post to read "it was 0500 and I was tired," but I just assume let it be.
Mainly because now it's 2200 and I'm tired.
Regularly scheduled deplpyments eh? I suppose that getting jerked out of port two months early counts as "regularly scheduled".
I prefer to think of it as more FRP abuse of Sailors, if you please.
And over the last 3 years, exactly how many have Stennis Sailors spent at sea? A lot more than they should have back when people actually cared about PERSTEMPO.
Regularly scheduled deployment my butt.
Uh Skippy,
The Stennis was deployed in November of 2001 until May of 2002, then again in May 2004 until November 2004, before going back out in Jan. 07.
Seems to me the Navy isn't overworking the Stennis. It spent 7 months in drydock in 2005, and 7 straight weeks at sea in early summer of 2006 in addition to its qualifications. Hmm, seems to me business as usual.
Then look at Enterprise Strike Group...
Or Boise just got back from 7 months being gone...
I think you missed a cruise in there, but I will have to look it up. Sounds like if what you say is true the Stennis was in ROH and that does not discount my point. They still got jerked out of port 2 months early.
