Picture of the Day: Air Supremacy
By John
And it ain't coming from the 18, either.
04/26/07 - A U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet, right, from Strike Fighter Squadron Twenty Seven, and an Air Force F-22 Raptor conduct joint training over Kadena Air Base, Japan, April 26, 2007. The training focuses on the next generation fighter capabilities of the two services. DoD photo by Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Hurst, U.S. Navy.
That's one of the better looking angles on the Raptor, I think.

Nice Hornet picture!
What was that other thing?
Uh...excuse me. You will notice the Hornet is in the lead. That's because the Raptor navigation software is T.U. AGAIN!.
Also the Hornet probably just kicked his ass so , he gets to lead his USAF "buddy"
( buddy being only half a word) back into the break at Kadena.
At 1500 feet instead of 800-the altitude you are supposed to break at..........
I realize you Air Force guys aren't real thrilled with the Raptor, but that's a nice picture!
heh, yah how about that software flap? Or the time they had to cut a pilot out of the aircraft because the canopy short circuited?
Although, I digress....few are the weapon platforms that are developed without glitches. Similiar problems with the 15 & 16, back in the day.
Keep in mind Skippy, the Raptor is allowing the 18 to lead. The 22 can supercruise at Mach 1 without burners...Mach 2.2 if they burn.
Actually I heard the F-22 can supercruise a lot faster than Mach 1, but I believe its actual top speed without burners is classified. It would depend on how full its tanks are and what it's carrying in its weapon bays, as well as altitude and local weather conditions of course.
John,
The Raptor and the Hornet are only as fast as the tankers they need to get anywhere. Three cheers for Tanker guys!
Plus you still go back to Kadena at about 350 knots-if you are lucky and don't get jerked around by approach control.

Total Victory through absolute air dominance!
F-22 aircraft are now on the ground/in the air at Elmendorf AFB.
