NIX THE FORT DIX SIX
By Lt Col P
Terrorists or not, they ought to be hanged. They are poster children for military tribunals. Try them, convict them, hang them. And let that be a lesson to the others. The great Jeff Cooper (whose birthday was yesterday) was fond of noting, "We threw the Moors out of Spain in 1492, but apparently we didn't throw them far enough." Time for another heave-ho, I'd say.
We learned an(other) expensive, bloody lesson for cheap. How many more passes do we get before our luck runs out? A Beslan-aboard-base? I shudder to think of it.
One article I read in the WaPo ended with the usual comment from the neighbors of these six creatures, you know, he-seemed-like-such-nice-boy, etc. "They were just average Muslims," said one man. Yes sir, they probably are, but not in the sense you think.
TRY THEM. CONVICT THEM. HANG THEM. Terrorists, enemy soldiers, AQ operatives-- it doesn't matter. Their necks will snap the same way.

How about we try these folks before finding them guilty. Once that happens I'm with you 100%. But let's have the trial first and ensure it isn't an overzealous press strategy or entrapment, as we've seen so many times in the past.
Sooner or later, we'll learn that sanctuary cities and "gee, he never seemed that evil" stories will get American nowhere.
After the trial, I'll be looking forward to the end for these bastards.
Until then, I'm glad that there are people who aren't afraid and are willing to turn over scum like this to the proper authorities for proper removal.
They need to get moving on that "john doe" protection law. Nobody should get dinged or sued for reporting something like this in good faith.
I'm not sure you can hang them for an "attempt." I think a very, VERY long prison sentence is the best we can hope for.
John - And unfortunately, during their very, VERY long prison sentence they will complain of abuse, abuse their prison guards, demand their jihad manual...err... Koran, demand prayer rugs, demand hilal food, demand to send letter to their terrorist friends, demand ACLU lawyers, demand CAIR lawyers and complain to them of abuse and probably get plenty of free education from the American prison system and get out early on either good behavior or after getting the ACLU and CAIR to shorten their sentence.
In short, by not hanging these bastards, we give them a HUGE propaganda victory for years and years while they stay in jail.
Brilliant.
If we can't legally hang them, then the laws should be changed to where a penalty of death comes with attempted or intended/planned terrorist attacks.
...A Beslan-aboard-base?...
A Beslan will be bad enough, and I realize these knuckleheads didn't have this capability, but the problem I really worry about is a nuclear 9/11.
We're not far from having to worry about this, and it frightens me to death that half the country just wants to put their heads back under the covers and murmur "La-La-La-La" until the boogy-man goes away and it is 9/10 again.
Unfortunately, I believe it is much more than half the country, azlibertarian. Hell, 75-90% of the country has no clue about the threat of Islamic Totalitarianism. I would guess that half the country "supports the troops", but I would guess that 75% of that half don't even know why they are supporting them. They just support them to support them. But 75-90% of this country has absolutely no clue as to the threat we face from Islamic Totalitarianism. All they care about is American Idol, beer and promiscuous sex. Oh yeah, and bitching about gas prices and blaming President Bush for every single freaking problem that happens in their lives.
We are in for some dark times ahead, because the vast majority of our country's civilians and military community has been overtaken by political correctness and is unwilling to address the threat of Islamic Totalitarianism.
I think what we need to look at is how to not treat folks like these six as criminals, but as combatants of some category or another. One of the things that helped get us to 9/11 was the fact the the government treated terrorism as a criminal enterprise and thus used police methods to try to "bring bin laden to justice."
It is clear that did not work. These types are not criminals in the terms that we think of criminals (i.e., murderers, robbers, etc.). No, they are part of a more broad effort to change our way of life.
I don't know right now how to reclassify this, but you must also realize that it will take a cultural shift on our part in order to properly affect it.
As Bull Nav noted above, "These types are not criminals in the terms that we think of criminals (i.e., murderers, robbers, etc.). No, they are part of a more broad effort to change our way of life."
I agree completely and can't help but wonder why they are not in Gitmo already.

The entertaining thing about the Fort Dix situation is to contrast it with pre 9/11. Had the FBI taken any of the flight schools who talked to agents seriously enough to "come take a look" well history might be different.
From everything I have heard, this is not a triumph for the FBI, it is for "a minuteman" who as "an ordinary citizen" found a problem and got help.
This time, someone took the issue seriously.
Thats a good thing
