Gen McCaffrey on the Hill Today
By Lt Col P
I heard a brief bit on the local news station, and then confirmed it on their webpage: Gen Barry McCaffrey called the troop surge a "fool's errand" and said that our allies will be all gone by the summer. That certainly doesn't bode well.
I haven't seen or heard that quote anywhere else. Can anyone find any other links to it?
Uggh. Something tells me we are entering a winter of discontent.

good sleuthin' Maggie!
Consider the source. Remember McCaffrey is the guy that was South Com Commander. He knew that the Mexican Army and Mexican Government at the highest levels was protecting and benefitting from drug trans-shipment through Mexico. As a reward for advocating for don't ask/don't tell treatment of gays in military service, Clinton posted him as drug czar. As drug czar, he lied that Mexico was a full partner in stopping drug trafficing. Why would he lie? So US taxpayer's dollars would bail out Mexican bonds which were owned by friends of Clinton and Sec of Treasury Rubin. McCaffrey might be right on this subject, but once a liar and a rat, always a liar and a rat.
CBS has it again this morning:

He was apparently one of several retired generals testifying. Winter of discontent is going to turn into the year of discontent...
You may try this as well

Oh yes, and another one of those distinguished generals was William Odom, a clown if there ever was one (just read the tripe he has been saying for years).
So who are you going to believe, a handful of retired generals with limited contacts on the ground or Gen Petreus with his contacts?
I wouldn't attack McCaffrey's rep, but I do agree with Sluggo. No doubt the retired brass that Congress brought in have a wide breadth of military expertise, but Petraeus is the man on the ground, so(particularly given his success in Mosul and his broad knowledge of counter-insurgency) he's the man we should be listening to.
Just so long as we also remember that, as the man in charge, Petraeus is also somewhat constrained in what he can say in public.
Gen McCaffrey bends the way the wind blows. His early comments(2003) were somewhat indifferent to the invasion. He steped on Schrubbs bandwagon because of his kids being in the care of the DOD. Now that the war is out of favor, he like, the other top brass, who never said anything at the outset, should be held accountable. A bunch of pu$$y's..
I have known McCaffrey and Odom since they were kid generals. They were good at what they did, but that is a lousy reason to think they have any common sense on what is happening now. Both are "cold war warriors" who have not updated their reality since 1990.
im a MacCaffery cheeers my brothers good luck and be good as you allways are.Love you all

***Four retired senior U.S. military officers criticized the administration's strategy at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing.
"It's a fool's errand," said Gen. Barry McCaffrey. "Our allies are leaving us," he said. "Make no mistake about that. Most will be gone by this summer."***
