Well isn’t that clever…
Serious Use for Silly String STRATFORD, N.J.
-
In an age of multimillion-dollar high-tech weapons systems, sometimes it’s the simplest ideas that can save lives. Which is why a New Jersey mother is organizing a drive to send cans of Silly String to Iraq. American troops use the stuff to detect trip wires around bombs, as Marcelle Shriver learned from her son, a soldier in Iraq.
Before entering a building, troops squirt the plastic goo, which can shoot strands about 10 to 12 feet, across the room. If it falls to the ground, no trip wires. If it hangs in the air, they know they have a problem. The wires are otherwise nearly invisible.
Similiar efforts to use Play-Dough as plastic explosive have been less successful, however.

The ingenuity of the American soldier never ceases to amaze me.

Likewise with the ineptitude and inflexibility of our supply channels. Anyone from S-4 care to comment as to why civilians have to donate this stuff?
I heard the story about the silly string being a tool for our troops and went to ebay and bought 12 cans. How and where do I ship it to? This is so COOL. God bless our troops!
Something like this would take the Army twelve months, a general (with his required staff of about six majors), five million dollars, and a congressional hearing before it got to the troops.

apparently there is a private pilot that has agreed to fly the silly string into Kuwait as it is considered a hazerdous material to mail. I just read about this in the Stars and Stripes.
MY CLUB HAS COLLECTED SIX CASES OF SILLY STRING FOR OUR TROOPS. HOW CAN I GET THEM TO MS. SHRIVER?
I would also like to know how to contact the leader of this drive. My club and I are also interested in collecting and donating cans of silly string.
where can i send the cans
