Iran: Israel will end like USSR

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has told a conference in Tehran questioning the Holocaust that Israel’s days are numbered. “Just as the USSR disappeared, soon the Zionist regime will disappear,” he said to the applause of the participants.

With a swelling youth population that hates his guts, a sputtering economy (despite Iran’s vast oil wealth), and hundreds of thousands of coalition forces enveloping his border, you’d think Ahmmy would be more worried about himself…..

John, I wish what you said was true. But the facts are this U.S. Administration has done nothing but talk. President Bush can’t even get any meaningful sanctions against Iran.

So far Ahmad has seen nothing from the west, including the U.S. to be worried about.

He thinks that he has a mandate, a religious and political mandate to do what ever he wants. We will see in a few weeks if the Iranian government feels the same way.

So far, they are the only thing that he needs to be worried about.

First, Mahmoud thinks that the twelfth Mahdi is going to pop up in the near future and set everything right so why should he worry?

Second, realize that Mahmoud is nothing more than Pinnochio to the Gepettos that are the ruling council. He didn’t run without their approval and he doesn’t speak without running his words by them first. (When he does, they slap him down as evidenced by some corrcetions made by Khameni here and there.) He may be the public face of Iran that everyone loves to hate but, he only has the power given to him by the theocracy. Don’t lose sight of the fact that they are the real enemy.

While it would be great to tap into that hatred that many of the youth have for him, many of those youth have a mistrust of or even just as much dislike for us. The memory of Mossadegh and our coup that overthrew him in favor of Reza Pahlavi is something that the intelligentsia of Iran and through them, the students of Iran, have not forgotten. Any gestures we make will be viewed through that prism. I am not saying that we can’t do anything, I am saying that it will require a tremendous effort and level of transparency that the Dept of State might not be able to comprehend or accept.

fearing us is just one leg in the tripod of crap that he needs to be sweating.
