Japan Reaches Down, Grabs Honorable Nuts

By Lt Col P

Japan just took the lead in acting against N Korea, if you ask me. I suppose being right next to the problem, having had practice missiles lobbed over your homeland and having had citizens kidnapped now and then by your nutty neighbors, tends to run your patience down.

Either way you cut it, it's damn good to see some leadership.

I'll now go back to deferring to John on NoKo issues.

About time. As someone having done a WestPac in '94 back when Sandy 'socks' Berger was pushing for appeasement it's sad to see the result, but not to see the honor of the Japanese. Very good allies for US so far.

During a CPX a young Japanese Liaison officer I worked with once asked me if the U.S. would really mobilize and carry through with what we practiced in our games. I responded, yes, I do believe we would.

Seemed as though the Japanese may not be all that confident of how we might back them up. But after the last few years, I think we have provided them something to build up their confidence.

Yet, if the Norks continue their games, I expect to see them rewriting their constitution pretty soon in order to build up their offensive capabilities.

Japan makes square seedless watermelons, they could probably pump out nukes the size of said watermelons.

To be honest, it wouldn't really surprise me if I were to learn that Japan has a nuke project of it's own going on, or even working warheads. They've had the tech base for many years; the only reason they haven't apparently done anything with it is internal politics.

Internal politics which could change in a hurry if those missiles NorK lofts over their heads every couple of years start getting more threatening.

Japan's nukes will be the first to have Ipod connections.

But I found this in the article:

Japan withdrew a series of controversial proposals to ban all North Korean exports and to prohibit North Korean aircraft and vessels from arriving in foreign ports.

I don't see where Japan is taking the lead, unless the article was revised since you first saw it.

I can't even begin to describe how satisfying it is to see a nation other than the United States treat Kim Jong Il with the proper degree of severity.
