A What-If on the Future of America

By Lt Col P

Submitted for your consideration, by way of the 10-8 Forums of which I am a frequent reader.

An excerpt: "By Christmas, the American economy had imploded. Inflation soared, unemployment soared, businesses closed, cities that had suffered direct hits became ghost towns. Tax revenues evaporated, leaving state governments without funds to pay unemployment benefits or teachers' salaries. With the New York Stock Exchange gone, stock trading ended, and values plummeted. Retirement assets and pension funds disappeared in a wink. Nobody knew what to expect. Real estate crashed, and major banks filed for bankruptcy. With the collapse of the American economy, the largest on earth, the most productive country on earth, with just 5% of the global population producing one third of the global economic output, the rest of the global economy fell into chaos. Oil shipments stopped, food shipments stopped, and in that winter millions of people in third world countries starved to death.

The America era was over."

Amid bouts of hawkish pessimism, I think hard on matters like this.

-sounds like a nuclear device was detonated in New York and D.C. If you're an islamofacist, why settle for small potatoes like taking down a couple of tall buildings? No money, no military - it's pretty simple, about like using boxcutters to hijack airplanes and use them as bombs.

If such a day did come, I wouldn’t be surprised if North Korea, Iran, Syria, and perhaps a few other nations were vaporized in a blind, revengeful nuclear strike.

On the positive side, the United Nations would be gone…

The radical islamic world knows that our economy is our vulnerability...the scenario isn't that far out. Oh, except that part about Hillary and Gavin. The voters could be duped into voting for one woman, but not two.

the world would hurt in far greater impact than the loss of the American Powerhouse ecomony.

In the 1st steps after said attacks, all USA food, medicine and resources would be drawn inward, much to the world's dismay, millions upon millions of 3rd worlder's peoples would perish, not to mention about 50% of the world's moslem population. In the end, America would survive and rebuild at a much faster rate than the arab/3rd world/islamic world would recoup.

This is closer to a reality than most folks realize. Its enough to keep you up nights, walking the floor.

All the more reason to train-up our kids, and spend plenty of time on the range. To hell with the third world, it would be the urban/suburban maggots in this country that I would be most concerned about; poor bastards.

Gibberish. Written by somebody who doesn't really understand how the world economy works, how teh US govt works, how anything really works.

I call this stuff "Apocalypse Porn".

Why go to so much trouble? Just a few modest warheads detonated above the atmosphere would create an EMP that would return North America to the Stone Age. 10s of millions of fatalities would result without any "direct" killing.
I'm glad firearms with iron sights don't require an electric current.

Couldn't agree more.

Pretty stupid scenario.

Doug   ·  October 27, 2006 08:37 AM

Yah, I found it somewhat farfetched. I do think the Persians might like to smuggle warheads our way someday, but the attack as written on won't happen.
