NATO Punk-Slaps Taliban

By Lt Col P

Looks like some positive developments coming out of the 'Stan.

WashTimes reports that Op Medusa has killed a large number of the Taliban's hard-core fighters. The Globe & Mail reports that Canadians were on the tip of the spear.

If Gen Jones' assessment is correct, then a couple of things are also true. First, NATO stood firm and did the deed, despite casualties and squawking in their home countries. Second, the Taliban miscalculated and paid the price for engaging in essentially conventional combat. Third, with the onset of the Afghan winter not too far off, the failure of the Taliban to gain control of the populace gives us the chance to exploit the victory with reconstruction and stabilization ops.

The Taliban will be back, later this year perhaps and certainly next year, but it is with these incremental operations that the war will be won.

Some say for every one we kill 10 are created.

I'd say for every one we kill, we kill one with experience to be replaced by 10 raw targets.

in the end a dead terrorist cannot bred, cannot teach and cannot do harm to others.

some say you cant kill them all, but actually the terrorists say they can kill all of us.. so kill all of those that try to kill us.

Morale isn't a one-way street. Surely some reasonable Afghanis are seeing which way the tide rolls, and want no part of a futile war effort against NATO. No, better off accepting stabilization and economic security.

If NATO did stand firm, this should be more talked about. I say this because I personally doubt them a great deal right now and I would like to hear more about NATO actually being effective.

The NATO troops did exceptionally well (especially the Canadians). Troops involved were reportedly of Canadian, Dutch, Danish, US, and British nationality. The Australian SF also had a simultaneous op going. Bill Roggio has more details and links.

"Punk-slap", verb (tr.), from modern American idiom: 1) to grab someone of punk-ish disposition with one hand and with the other hand slap him repeatedly while saying with emphasis, "why... you... stupid... punk... I... oughta... break... your... damn... jaw..." etc.; 2) to chastise and humiliate verbally and publically
