Jerusalem Post: Iran Planning Nuclear "Surprise"

JP Staff:

A senior official in Teheran said Wednesday that in the next few days, a “surprise” was expected regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Al-Jazeera reported.

Yawn. The only thing that would be a “surprise” is if the UN managed to cease Iran’s uranium enrichment program.

You guys can believe Al-Jazeera all you want, cooler heads are prevailing here at OPFOR.

Why would there be a ‘surprise’ regarding nuclear power production? What possible reason would they have for keeping some power generation breakthrough a secret, and then spring it on the world?

Here’s a more likely scenario: They’ve managed to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes, and they have achieved a nuclear warhead.

  2. goesh says:

The surprise is that they will have demonstrated conclusively two things: 1.) The UN is unable to stop them 2.) the threat of commercial disruption to stop via force outweighs any long-term strategic needs of the West, despite the projected, dire consequences of a nuclear armed, islamic fundamentalist regime with rapidly expanding, massive energy revenues. War on terrorism you say? Shit, boy, they are soon going to bring it to us – it’s their war. There isn’t even a decent plan on the boards to deal with al sadr in Iraq, let alone Iranian forces with deep financial pockets and an arsenal that makes al sadr’s boys look like they are fielding slingshots. Take hizbullah for instance – they fired off better than 3,000 primitive rockets and IDF couldn’t stop them. What percentage of those depleted assets has already been replenished by Iran do you suppose? I would bet 40%.

One strike in Iran and every swinging dick in that nation will be screaming for our blood and calling for martyr actions against US interests all over the world. We get one strike on 9/11 and what happens? Debate, hand-wringing, legal wrangling and self doubts about aggressive interrogations, detaining enemy combatants, wire tapping, collateral damage and profiling potential enemies. The dumb fucking brass giving you boys your orders can’t even put themselves in the enemy shoes and ask the question they are asking themselves, ” why should we be afraid of them (the West)?”

  3. rbj says:

Yup. The surprise will be a detonation. Kofi Annan will respond with the dreaded “sternly worded letter.”

The question then becomes, what do Israel and the US do in response.

  4. igout says:

You guys tell me. Much as the a**holes deserve it, is nuking Iran even an option, given its proximity to Russian and Chinese territory?

  5. Alsadius says:

igout: Yes, it’s an option if circumstances warrant it. If we have reason enough to start killing millions of Iranians with nuclear warfare, we aren’t going to give a damn where the fallout lands. Mind you, that’ll only happen if millions(or at least hundreds of thousands) of ours are dead first, but given those circumstances, yes, we’ll gladly provide the world with a new Iran-sized parking lot.

  6. jerkbait says:

well heres the suprise. Iran has hooked up with North Korea, worked a trade out, with all those conterfeit bens, i.e. given the benjamins to hezbollah to trade with. But also, given kim so much needed mullah to continue his reign of terror. So, kim sends his guys to Iran to help work out the kinks of their nuclear problems, solved them now, Iran has missles that work, so, with such a good exchange program, they can now threaten the neighborhood with the real deal. While the Europeans try to appease them, and the 6 party talks a waste, wow, this sounds just like the lead up to Hilters little regime/escapades. More to come……

    Alsasius,

Well, yes, if we’re hit, we’ll hit back. But how can we take out Iran before that happens? As I said, it’s hard for me to see how Russia and China wouldn’t have a problem with mushroom clouds so close to them.
