"Derivery" for Kim Jong-Il...... Total Force work at Rimpac

F-15 Eagles fire AIM-7 Sparrow missiles at a tactical air-launched decoy off the coast of Hawaii on July 16 during the Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2006. The F-15s are from the Hawaii Air National Guard's 199th Fighter Squadron.

kind of makes ya feel bad for all members of the axis, don't it?

Pseudo General   ·  July 18, 2006 11:39 AM

Sparrows? What happened to the AMRAAM's?

I feel sorry for the 199th. Not only old Fighters (A models) but old missiles too. You'd think with all the "force adjusting", somebody might send some decent planes to the ANG.

Any chance you could do some strategerizing about the new Air Force restructuring? Hearing stuff like "reducing fighter force by 25%" is making me a wee bit nervous that we're getting a bit short-sighted and fixated on our little land wars as opposed to potential opponents like China or some such country.

Unknown guy above,

Figure they're using AIM-7s rather than -120s for practice because a)they're still a bunch laying around and b)better to practice with weights on your legs :D

Thanks for the RimPac photos,...brings back memories. I was with 1st RPV Co of the USMC way back in 88-90 on the USS Mount Vernon (LSD) when we did the first ship-board RATO onboard a Navy vessel. Great photo!

AMRAAM's are too expensive to waste three shooting a TALD. They're probably using sparrows near the end of their shelf-life anyway.

Andy   ·  July 18, 2006 02:48 PM

Well, they sure look like Sparrows, in which case the correct shot call is "Fox One".

Tony   ·  July 18, 2006 06:17 PM

Funnily enough, looking at that shot made me think of the last big battle in "Independance Day".

Which is one film I'd rather forget! ;-)

Good photo though.....

Yeah, I think "fox two" = IR, like Sidewinder.

I still can't believe the US Navy never added AMRAAM capability to their F-14s. What were they thinking?

Nicholas   ·  July 18, 2006 07:45 PM

Sigh... RimPac 1994. Doing ASW and kill the hell out of our own subs.

Port visits in and out of Oahu. Admiral banning sailors riding on mopeds because he thinks it is 'too dangerous'. (Thank you, Mr. Clinton for your leadership touch on our military, starting it in the risk-averse mode...)

Jetman   ·  July 18, 2006 11:34 PM

Best part is the title...
"Derivery"
Goes with the "independence Day" reference for Jong Il, "In the words of my generation - UP YOURS!"
