The Corps’ V-22 Osprey program continues to gather speed and momentum.
Last month, a pair of the tiltrotor aircraft flew from MCAS New River to MCAS Miramar in preparation for this month’s transatlantic flight to the Farnborough International Airshow. (Great photo in that article.)
Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 263 (VMM-263), is scheduled to come on line next summer. That will be a long-awaited and truly revolutionary leap in capabilities.

Actually, VMM-263 stood up back in March of this year. Last I heard, VMM-263 has a few aircraft to play with for now. The transitioning of aircraft from VMX-22 and VMMT-204 is ongoing (as well as receipt of new aircraft from Bell-Boeing).
Worked as a System Safety engineer on the Osprey from May ’02 through Aug ’05. Lots of progress has been made; can’t wait for the Osprey to show the rest of the world what it can do.
Yup, they stood up in March. I’m stationed on Lejeune and almost got the chance to attend the ceremony. I was just too busy that day to get away from the office.
One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen was an Osprey flying at low altitude over me as I drove out to Onslow Beach. It was awesome.
