Is Washington, DC a Quagmire?

By John

Rep. Steve King says that Iraq is safer for civilians than the District of Columbia.

Despite media coverage purporting to show that escalating violence in Iraq has the country spiraling out of control, civilian death statistics complied by Rep. Steve King, R-IA, indicate that Iraq actually has a lower civilian violent death rate than Washington, D.C. Using Pentagon statistics cross-checked with independent research, King said he came up with an annualized Iraqi civilian death rate of 27.51 per 100,000.

While that number sounds high - astonishingly, the Iowa Republican discovered that it's significantly lower than a number of major American cities, including the nation's capital.

"It's 45 violent deaths per 100,000 in Washington, D.C.," King told Crowley.

Maybe we should pull out.

Charlie says:

When, When, will our leaders admit their grievous mistakes and drop their unilateralist, arrogant, and neo-con-driven agenda of District occupation? Obviously, an effective government will never be able to be established. The only solution to this horrid and shameful chapter in American policy is to partition “Washington,” returning it to the control of Virginia and Maryland under the auspices of the United Nations (and possibly France). Only then can we have peace with honor!

I find this very interesting - esp. given the change of violence from 'insurgents' to crime. See Buck Sargent's post http://americancitizensoldier.blogspot.com/2006/05/csi-iraq.html
If only Murtha showed the same outrage about the DC numbers...or House members taking bribes...

Speaking of crime in the nation's capitol, read this:

Air_Force_Pundit

In which we learn:

Marc Ficcarra: USAF Hero murdered in DC...
"I need a little help. On the 20th of January a friend and fellow Air Force member was leaving a club in Adams Morgan. He witnessed a girl getting harrassed by a man who was eventually punched in the face by him. My friend Marc Ficarra went to the girls aid and ran off her assailant. Within minutes the guy returned with 4 friends who jumped him. Marc didn't have a chance. At least one of the assailants had brass knuckles and Marc received multiple head wounds putting him into a coma. After several surgeries and a week of coma Marc died early Sunday morning.

They outlawed the Second Amendment in DC...

We Marylanders don't want DC back. Not even part of it.

Comparing Iraq and D.C. doesn't make sense, roughly 30 million live in Iraq while there are not even a million in d.c. Iraq has 100,000 U.S. and some allied troops plus there own cops and army and is basically under martial law. D.C. is still a free city, now I guess you could make a case for a 100,000 man police force for D.C. but that's it from what I can see.

Perhaps moonbat Sheehan was right "Get troops out of 'occupied New Orleans'"

At 53/100,000 we have clearly lost the hearts and minds; lets not even mention "quagmire!"

More evidence that our our educational system is critically failing.

When a statistic is stated as a ratio e.g. 45 per 100,000 that allows two populations of different sizes to be compared Hint: Its called statistics.

The question is are the ratio's valid. But I've done my part, that's up to the liberals to figure out.

While I am sure that this could not be made to happen; wouldn't it put a different slant on things if the Lamestream Media were to spend just one month showing how many deaths happen in Iraq daily, compared to the same days deaths in the USA? And, this is not "Apples to Oranges". A death is a death, is a death. What is the difference whether it is from an IED, or a home invasion robbery? What is the difference whether it is from a sniper or a drunk with a car,(ala Ted Kennedy at Chappaquiddick)? John Murtha and Cindy the snake, and even John McCain wouldn't stand for us showing that it is more dangerous in our inner cities, than in Iraq. The sheep in this country believe any and all the pablum served up by the Lamestream Media. We who have taken the effort to verify by consulting with the on scene people are called blind?
