I can’t say I disagree with this:
We need some films celebrating the war against Islamo-fascism in Afghanistan and Iraq — and in Iran as well, if and when that becomes necessary. We need films like those that were made during World War II, films such as 1943′s “Sahara” and “Action in the North Atlantic,” or “The Fighting Seabees” and “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo,” which were released in 1944.
Not all of these were great films, or even good ones, but their patriotic tributes to our fighting forces inspired the nation.
When war comes, as it always will, and when it is justified, as it is now, some nuances and shades of gray have to be set aside. It is time, instead, for faith and for ferocity. Our enemies have these weapons, after all. Our movies should inspire us to have them too.

Long long long long overdue!!!!!
I have given up on Hollywood or even the “American Media” to stand up and do their job as American citizens. I am at the point now were I want to know were the Generals are. It is obvious that we are losing on the US media front. The military leadership’s job is to adapt to whatever senerio in warfare arises and since the current political leadership is either incapable or unwilling to rally the people make the case then it falls to the military leadership to do what it takes. Considering that it is absolutely crucial that we hold the home front moral since the only way we can lose this war is if our people give up. And this fact has been proven no less than 2twice Vietnam, Somalia emphasizing the fact that if something is not done the military itself has become irrelevant just as the LLL’s wanted because what use is having a military if your nation cant even stomach to engage in war and worse cant even stomach to make sacrifices and do what must be done to win.
I want to know were the public service announcements and commercials are? I want recruiting commercials showing “what if we lose” showing interviews with Iraqi’s on our side and kids saying this is what we fight for, I want to see commercials showing who are our enemies showing Imams insane rants on world domination and infidels and AQ boys killing innocents in Iraq and the US saying “bonded by blood”. I want those commercials to enphasize the fact that the normal Iraqi is our friend so when they see a bombing today in Iraq on CNN people see what they should a strike against our allies in WW2 Britian was bombed nightly did the US pop see every bombing as proof our defeat and hopelessness? I want to see the military stop all Intel and even regular information releases to “American Media” outlets that don’t show the US tilt favor while those that do are given heads up and special treatment to take them to the front of the pack.
I want to see the talking heads who are currently retired generals, majors, kernels, “experts” ran out by active duty military Reps with on the ground experience representing the military side of things to debate the CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC anchor on how things are going. If they don’t allow such then see above and all information flow is stopped their reporters are deported from the battlefield and let em tell their lies from their safe offices in the states and claim to know better.
I can think of a hundred different what if scenarios that could show either what if we didn’t fight the WOT or what if we lose in our current phase of the WOT. I want to see them on TV as adds so the LLL’s will be forced to ban them (I personally think they will blink) and if they do we can prove them for what they are and take action against them for what they are.
In Asymmetrical Non-conventional warfare the number 1 ONE object is to force your enemy to show themselves and come out and fight on your terms so you can engage and kill them. Everything else is just to expedite this number one goal easier or better.
I am just as happy with Hollywood on the sidelines. I don’t have much faith in their ability to make an impartial war movie, nevermind a supportive one. “Jarhead”….. need I say more?
Can you think of one director who has indicated any interest? Even historical films. Look at Clint Eastwood’s new project, two films about Iwo Jima. One, from the Allied perspective “Flags of Our Fathers” and the other from the Japanese perspective “Red Sun, Black Sand”. I am sure both will be interesting, beautifully filmed with lavish attention to detail. I will go see both. But they will not be in any way supportive of the great heroism of the men who fought and died there. Or of the bigger picture.
Attitudes in Hollywood toward patriotic films is very jaded. They look at the films you mention as pure propaganda. Even though there were critical elements in many of those films. So all filmakers now have to go to the other extreme to prove they are not so naive. They never acknowledge the bigger picture. That there are things worth fighting and dying for.
****Attitudes in Hollywood toward patriotic films *are* very jaded.****
Sometimes there are typos when I rant.
Well, I hate to break this to you, but “Hollywood” is a business. They make movies they think will sell. And since even Fox’s polls show Bush with tanking approval #s, and the majority of those against saying his handling of Iraq & the QWOT is the main reason they don’t like him, you don’t need a PhD in economics to see that a patriotic pro-GWOT movie ain’t gonna sell.
Sorry Legion – Hollywood’s anti military, anti-white hat, anti-hero bent started long before “W” was president.
