Went for a 3-mile ruck today in beautiful, sunny Virginia.

Rucksack

Boots

I wanted to break in my new Belleville Desert Combat Boots. I'm pretty satisfied with their performance so far -they feel more like tennis shoes than combat boots.

Just a word of warning, the Belleville Boots can get hot. You're feet can cook in them, at least in the warmer climes. Hubby-dearest had me ship him his older beat up pair when he was first deployed. He said his feet would get so hot they'd blister, but not in his older pair.

As a sailor, I've found the V-Tech Lite boots (sold at the PX, side-zip, holds well), air incredibly well. I've ran 4-5 miles in them, no prob. Not sure about your uniform regs, these boots are black and come with (~$90) or without steel toe (~$75)

Doubt the arch support is what it's supposed to be, but those disposeable inserts are better anyway.

Take them to a boot shop and have him punch (or drill) many small air holes.

Also, your outfitting would not be complete without some of these.

Moisture wicking and wicked protection from flames and heat.

If it was me, I would take them to a boot shop and have him punch (or drill) many small air holes, then spray with waterproofing.

Also, your outfitting would not be complete without some of these.

Moisture wicking and wicked protection from flames and heat. Never know when you might have to rescue someone from a fire.

Ready: Oped Mind.
Here comes a heresy that I'm sure will rain flak upon me, but here goes nothin'.
As a former mountain guide (Mt Rainier), and as a former infantryman and as a senior backpack salesman, I highly recommend quality internal framed packs over framed ones.
I know ALICE is your long-time girlfriend, but, for multiple technical reasons, the internal frame is superior for load-bearing. Heavy, oversize loads included.
I'm ducking now...
